This is an excellent example of tsunami wave refraction. The wave bouncing back from the shore against itself and rising bigger back across the bay 😮anf flooding the harbor the way it did is the best wave refraction video I have seen.

That town was extraordinarily lucky. Because the wave was travelling parallel to the shore it caused basically no damage at all although a number of boats were battered and some sunk, but not a drop in the town that I could see.
All things considered, the town seemed to weather the event incredibly well. It looked designed to handle/channel water. It almost looks like an industrial fishing complex. Pardon my ignorance. It didn't seem to receive nearly the wave intensity as many others that I've seen. I'm assuming it was further away from the tsunami epicenter.

I've watched several hours of footage of the horrific affect this event had on the lives of those caught in and humanity in total. But I'm struck by the absence of a tsunami warning alert siren blasting the imminent arrival of a large/tall wave, that is what I call the finger of god, will scrape humanity off the surface down to bedrock. A siren is heard but not anywhere near the volume and with a vocal tone that grips your heart and causes a flight reaction for anyone in ear shot. Then repeat, with geocentric orbiting satellite capable of measuring the height and speed, have this information sent directly to all media outlets, tv radio isp cell phone carrier's and the loud speakers, give the population data that give them no dought that a tsunami that will affect their lives is inbound. The people of Japan have experienced this many times a generation, they know what a sudden change in ocean height means. Enough with launching commercial and military, put the technology together to monitor and warn the citizens of earth so we can do whats needed and in doing so, reduce casualties and pressure on local and state emergency services and military. Yes the infrastructure will get ruined. But if such a dynamic alert system was in service, cost of search and rescue then transport, hospital, morgue etc much diminished. Also considering all public education in every country on planet teaches the subjects in the same order and priority, we can thank the british ruling classes for such, additional internet read, The murder machine by Paudric Pierce, Irish author. So through this vast education system take a few minutes to inform them what signs to be aware off post earthquake. No one 8n modern times should be seen walking out on suddenly exposed ocean bed, thrill at what might be found in place that should be under several feet or meters of water. Also the information from orbiting satellites should give each recipient their measurements above sea level and where the closest high ground that should be safe place for size of Tsushima.

Thank goodness for a decent piece of footage of this catastrophic event! Not on zoom constantly and being moved around at break neck speed and all over the place and not shaking or filming anything but the tsunami. It must have been unbelievably difficult to film this event for most due to the emotional aspect of the situation and I’m grateful for all that I’ve watched. I wish both but the best for all our Japanese friends in their recovery and ongoing success in their lives.
Too bad all the stupid zooms that bring nothing, he just had to put his smartphone down in the direction of the port and wait, no interest in filming waves that far

Agreed. Sadly, anyone who buys a camera can call himself a photographer if he likes. It takes a lot of training and experience to understand what's involved in doing it properly. But, this is an amateur with a camera and he did his best without having a photographers true "eye" for capturing what's most important at any time. But we've seen worse. At least it didn't look like he tied his camera to a rope and let it swing around. And of course, deep condolences to all the people in Japan affected or injured by this awful geologic and "harbor wave" event. Wishing well to them all.
Gday..DIDNT ANYONE HEAR THE FUCKEN SIRENS...WTF.....i have no compssion for ignorance of impending danger..especially deliberate refusal to get the flock to higher ground....
