God, the music in this game is one step away from being noise. It's like someone puked notes all over a music sheet. It's not even all that much better on SNES from the quick longplay I checked. From what I can gather from the footage, the music seems to hard-cut to a different track every time an enemy is nearby, and hard-cuts back to a different track when the enemy goes away or is defeated. Though, it cuts so often that it's honestly hard to tell what's the level music, and what's the enemy's music. It also doesn't help that the tempo speeds-up and slows-down depending on your character's speed making it sound nauseating after a while with all the stop & go action. I think what they were trying to pull-off was something like Wario Land 4 where the music dynamically and subtly changes tempo and instruments depending on your character's speed, and power-ups they got. It's just that the person making the system in Bubsy 2 probably wasn't very musically inclined, and didn't bother asking the composer if it sounded ok.

I genuinely don't understand why so many people hate on Bubsy and see him as this "odd one out" out of the whole mascot platformer trend in the 90s. It's like they see him as this "second coming of Satan" or something and I don't know how or why. This is coming from someone who actually enjoys the first Bubsy game. Is it one the same level as a Mario or Sonic game? No, but for what it is, I still had a pretty fun time with it. The second one was pretty eh, and I haven't played the other ones yet, but still, I feel like Bubsy gets craped on a bit too much if you ask me. It's nice to see more people who doesn't treat him like he's some sort of joke or something and opening up to him. Cheers!

It's from that early 2010s angry reviewer era, I think. It's where I learned that hate, before I came around to love the bubs. Plus a little bit of Something Awful-era internet, where people liked to hate on the cartoon pilot for being annoying. Really it feels like a bunch of aging 20-somethings looked back on their childhoods and decided the optimism and unfettered radical joy of the era was cringe and stupid. So they made fun of it, and the youth of the latter day knew only this scorn. Truly one of our era's great tragedies.

1:55:41 I think I might know why there's this random green pixel on the mountain. In these old games what they'd usually do to mimic parallax scrolling is they'd basically cut the background layer into horizontal slices and move those slices around at different rates to cause this neat little illusion. There's more to it, but that's just the basics of that trick That ONE pixel that's on the mountain is actually the tippy-top of one of those pine trees in the background. It's just that either the programmer sliced the background 1 pixel too low, or the artist drew it 1 pixel too high, and because the TV cables for these things at the time made the picture blurry, no one noticed that one stray pixel. Fun stuff!

the carnevil grave yard shift game is based upon the midway arcade game CarnEvil. You can play that one today through emulators, but that's the only connection I know.

I played "a" CarnEvil version at the same location seen in the David Ellis video, Six Flags Marine World (now Discovery Kingdom). I am fairly sure I played in a mobile version of the theatre before an actual "permanent" installation went in. I quote that because the attraction seemed to last only a mere two years. I also quote "a" because the attraction was not outright called CarnEvil, as seen in the assets you have provided. I remember this specifically because I had played CarnEvil before and I mentioned that the assets were identical to the host, where he said they had licensed the assets. In the game, it was similar to the pirate one, in which you punched the zombies and you got a score. I'm unsure how the score system worked, but I remember that I did end up "fighting the final boss". Watching your video was eye-opening, as I knew about the host and the green screen (it was a single employee running the entire thing, as she stated could happen), but I wasn't aware it was static footage. I applaud you for your deep research and in-depth video about what essentially is brain fog in everyone's minds by now.

I haven't even finished the video yet, but I'm laughing really hard from the fact that your VHS player and tape were working perfectly, but the second to tried to summon the rat demon himself it all broke... I can't decide whether it was a force of good intervening or Rap Rat trying to escape lol

This is oddly one of the very few creepypastas that genuinely freaked me out as a kid and i cant articulate why. I think it might have been the description of the puppet convulsing since my imagined version of that scene is what kept replaying in my head, but that still doesnt make much sense because id seen far worse imagery with my actual eyes that didnt scare me as much as that did. I had to take a break from all horror for about a month to recover because everytime i saw anything creepy that fucking gyrating rat would pop into my head. It was really weird. Id never seen the real rap rat and didnt even know it *was* real until watching this video, i always thought it was made up for the story. All i had was the still image of the puppet and my imagination for how it would move, finally seeing the real footage of the puppet still gave me a jolt of anxiety for a second before i realized how stupid it actually looks lol.
