Harley quin rasboras will be so good in lotus aquascape because they will cover the upper and middle area and cardinals or neon will cover the bottom area . Just a suggestion
@lifewaterscapes2 ай бұрын
yeah I've definitely thought about the harlequin rasboras, I had them in a previous tank and they were pretty good for schooling so I might look at them again or maybe the copper rasbora which are very similar. thanks for the suggestion

Can you speak a bit about the shelving situation? Particularly brand and did you do your own plywood?
@lifewaterscapes2 ай бұрын
hey yes its heavy duty garage storage from the brand pinnacle. it has mesh shelves so I got some plywood and cut and stained it to go on top for the tanks. ive seen some better ones that other people use but that one is pretty cheap for that kind or storage and easy to setup so I just started with it.
@fintasticfishOfficial2 ай бұрын
beautiful! what type of rack system are you using?
@lifewaterscapes2 ай бұрын
thanks! its a a heavy duty garage storage rack from my local hardware store (Bunnings) and I have some plywood over the mesh as it only has a mesh shelf with some supports on it. so I can run some cable from the light hanging kits through the mesh and under the plywood

Lagenandra is a rhizome plant will it grow on wood or rocks just kike anubias ? I know and saw everywhere that it needs to be planted in soil but just want to know
@yashtapase38212 ай бұрын
Hello sir I also got the narrow leaf java fern but the new leaf which grown in my tank are stuned i mean the rhizomes producing leaves but they get stunt after hitting the lenght of 1 or 2inch 😢 Please guide me
@lifewaterscapes2 ай бұрын
im not sure about that. it could be a lighting or fertiliser problem. when I first had it I was dosing a really lean fert and there was so much plant mass that there weren't enough nitrates in the water for it so it had more damaged leaves and damaged tip. so maybe test your nitrates to make sure you have some in the water. cause if you have lots of plants it can be really low. and if you do maybe see the light if its got enough power. I have had some of the java fern in tanks with less light and they remained pretty small. but I never had them in there for really long periods of time.
@yashtapase38212 ай бұрын
@lifewaterscapes I have hygrophila corymbosa so it was sucking so much of nitrates and all the fertz I was dropping in So I removed a big clump of it and I see 1 rhizome is trying to produce a long leaf maybe I need to see how my other plants gets what they need and will make sure that jaba fern also gets their food

I love your aquascape. I think it looks great! I’m wondering how much money you invested in total. Especially in plants. You’re lucky to be able to acquire all those different types of plants. I live in Puerto Rico and I have to purchase my plants in Amazon. Nobody in Puerto Rico that I know of dedicate themselves to producing aquatic plants. So you could imagine how much money I would have to spend on aquascape to make it look at least similar in beauty as yours. Best wishes to you.
@lifewaterscapes2 ай бұрын
hey there thank you! so for the price I paid around $700 aud for the tank, stand, filter, light and hardscape, I bought it all second hand from one person so it was a great price. for the plants I paid $500 for the ones I planted in this video but some of them were expensive and fancy which made the price higher. and then I paid another $250 ish for more plants later. where I am plants are pretty expensive. Western Australia has a fair few aquascapers but unfortunately it's difficult for shops to get plants as we have very strict bio security for plants which makes it harder and more expensive to get them. but that being said because the plants are harder to get it does make it so you can sell a bunch of them once they are growing well. when I pulled the tank down I took a bunch of them to a local shop and traded a bunch in for credit and traded half in and almost got my money back and had some left for other scapes. so that is one bonus of it being difficult to get plants. I hope you get to make a great scape and find some good plants to buy in Puerto Rico.

thank you so much! I hope you have good fun with the first scape. one thing I found was at the start all my scapes get algae but after a few months it starts to get more in balance and becomes easier to manage and find the balance of light and nutrients, so don't be too alarmed with the starting algae.

Indeed a "proper" scape! Curious how you knew the old UNS soil was depleted? My experience with Flamingo Crypt is that one needs a "seasoned" tank (as opposed to a new set up) in order for it to flourish.
@lifewaterscapes3 ай бұрын
hey I had the old UNS soil is a scape for about 6 months before but I think I lost the bacteria a bit as I didn't really plant in wet soil. so I put the used wet soil in then topped up with the new soil. but it took me about an hour or more to plant with the filming and I did it dry without adding any water to the soil. which would have lead to a lot of the bacteria dying, and also made it much harder to plant. now I use a wet soil as its much easier for me. but it ended up being about 30% used soil and 70% new contra soil. yeah for crypts and stuff like that ive been using more dark starts to help keep the ammonia down and have a more stable start which I think is a lot better for the more sensitive plants.

Nice job! My one complain as in 99% of the scapes. you did such a great job with the hardscape with dynamic lines of the wood perches on a dramatic cliffs and.. then covered if with a wig of java fern XD
@lifewaterscapes3 ай бұрын
thanks! yeah it definitely needed to be trimmed and kept more under control so it didn't take over the whole hardscape like it did.

Can you fill an entire tank up to the top with this AQUA STONE without breaking the bottom glass ? this is a tank strength question.
@lifewaterscapes3 ай бұрын
im not sure, it probably depends on the stones, some people when using really big stones will put them on aquasoil or a material like foam so they don't scratch and potentially crack the glass. I think the weight isn't a problem but more the contact point. if all the weight is on a single point it will be more likely to break it than if its dispersed with a material. I hope that helps a bit, but im not 100% sure about the glass strength

@lifewaterscapes3 ай бұрын
thanks. I just checked your channel as well and have seen a few videos before so I just subscribed. yeah I never even thought about companies painting gravel but when I looked at the packet after they started to change colour it said it was a painted gravel. now I know to double check when I buy from a big hardware store
@halo2something3 ай бұрын
looks good, very lively not sure, why you had ammonia spike, since you capped aqua soil and tabs with the sand layer, which is supposed to prevent extra nutrients leeching into the water column i usually wait with adding new crypts to new setups, they always melt in unstable parameters
@lifewaterscapes3 ай бұрын
yeah I try to wait now with the crypts so they have a better chance but I put some into my 4ft which has been dark started for 2 months and had perfect clean water and had a lot of crypt melt, but they look to be coming back in that tank better after the melt

Hey man, fellow Aussie here, you can take this on board or not but if I was you I’d put a black screen behind the tank that covers the kitchen, a good key light highlighting the tank and the quality and of the production would instantly increase, just my thoughts, nice scape

hey mate, yeah I need to organise all that stuff, the house has been in a bit of chaos cause I moved and have been doing some Renos, but ill definitely be taking that onboard. it just needs that little bit of production work to make it look better. cheers
