John has a truly interesting and versatile repertoire. Anyone who can play the cinema organ this well is worthy of great admiration!

Many thanks for this. One of, if not the, best of his Jazz albums. I have the LP which I can no longer play. I bought it in 1976. A really nice quality transfer here, thanks.

I'm a big fan of Gordon's music. The chandos recordings of his compositions are really lovely. I used to record a lot of stuff back in the late 70's, early 80's mostly of the bbc Radio, Northern, Midland radio orchestras. In fact, i used to have a recording of Gordon Langford playing in a quartet on a music while you work series they did back in the day.

@@Pianokeys88 Yes!! It's definitely that one as there's an unknown tune that I kept but must have deleted as I can't find it. I skipped to around 14 minutes and there it was. That's brilliant. Thanks so much for finding that.

What a great and unique upload and amazing quality too for something videotaped 40 plus years ago! 'Still going strong ' is their motto. Over the years I've seen them a number of times but over the last few years they've been playing at the Concorde Club at Eastleigh which isn't far as I live in Portsmouth. Amazing that this was at the king's in Southsea!

Many thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just to clarify this wasn't recorded at the King's. Must check out the Concorde Club sometime. They really are superb live aren't they!

@@Pianokeys88 yeh, I don't know why I wrote that. Of course it wasn't! Shakatak are really good live and I thought the last one I went to at the Concorde was one of the best. They have some good stuff there but they also have a lot of tribute acts that I'm not so keen on. It's interesting how musical tastes overlap. I'm also a big fan of Billy Mayerl and have many of the newer recordings from Eric Parkin and others. I also have a lot of his sheet music and used to play some of his music but over the last few years I developed Dupuytren's contracture so can't play anything now! Good job I wasn't playing for a living!

I miss the organist entertains on radio too Nigel. You are a great organist and presenter. I am 80yrs old and played piano and organ. This video is awsome. I met Reginald after his organ concert in Leicester (about 1971-2) shook his ‘magical’ hand, and he signed his LP (to me) I’ll never forget that evening. So watching you bringing him, and the Tower Ballroom back to life has been WONDERFUL. Thank you so much for playing the Wurlitzer for us and recording your personal tribute to MR BLACKPOOL you are awsome too !! 😊😊😊 Jim

I can't thank you enough for uploading this. I have many happy memories of hearing William Davies playing cinema organ concerts in several venues. Sadly, there seems to be very little of his work available online, though I have a few commercial recordings. He was simply a musical genius, and he had a lovely dry sense of humour too.

This is beautiful! To see the Grace, Elegance and Discipline of the dancing couples - coupled with the sound of The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (what a fabulous and unique noise) and the thing that brings all this together is the 'skill' of a very talented organist! Fabulous music Phil Kelsall! (applauds) I was taught to play the Wurlitzer and the Rutt at the St. Alban's Organ Museum many many moons ago by the late Len Rawle, but although I 'can' fly an aircraft with my eyes shut... Sorry I mean "Get a tune out of both organs which is recognisable", I am no where near your standard. I take my hat off to you Sir and totally enjoy the sound of you and this great instrument in harmony!
