This was a carp I caught at Ashmansworthy Pools when my buddy and I went on a trip to the UK from Ontario to fish at Pallatrax HQ. Some Awesome carp Simon has in his lakes. Thanks for the comment 🍻

Thank you I appreciate the kind words and comment. It’s crazy that fish last time I caught it just seemed like an empty sack. Just a literal shell of itself. I have a ton of photos even from other who caught it and the amount it has changed is crazy. We believe it is a very old carp that has reached its peak weight and is now in decline until death essentially. The last photo doesn’t do the fish just and the scale patterned and fin help ID it so we know it is the same fish even though it doesn’t look like it 😂 Thanks for watching 🍻

That kinda looks like dry feed corn. Dry corn needs to be soaked 24 hours and boiled for a few hours for the carp to actually be able digest it. Dry corn can be dangerous if they eat too much of it. Great under water footage though.
@ontcarpn7 ай бұрын
No worries I can tell you this corn was soaked for weeks. I keep 6 buckets full at a time in my garage through the warmer months where I fill each bucket up with feed corn, hot water, salt and whatever flavour I want. If i have time to boil it I willl but most of the time it’s soaked. I won’t use it until I can break the kernel in between my fingers as I don’t want to damage the carps digestive tract. I do appreciate your concern and hope anyone in the comments can learn from your comment as it is very important. Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed film 😁

Hahaha kinda at least they showed interest 😂
@originalmachowi46717 ай бұрын
Nice. I find playing "keep away" with them to be the most effective way of getting them to slam, especially when using plastics. Right after the drop as they show up on your flasher showing interest, slowly start pulling that jig back up. They'll pursue and it will trigger them to hit. I also like to use those little white micro plastics with one of those sensitive flutter tails, the kind where you don't have to deliberately jig because you holding the rod is enough to send vibes down and make it look alive. And I pay special attention to make sure that the plastic is inline with my jig and is always horizontal, for crappies anyway.
@ontcarpn7 ай бұрын
Fanatics advice! Something I haven’t quite mastered yet is that less is more with a decent plastic to get the appendages to more right. I 110% over work my bait and get frustrated. Same with rattle baits. I generally use maggots or waxies as they alway seem to provoke a bit however they are a disadvantage on a hot bite or in the bitter cold. I will definitely what you said a try next time I am out and hopefully get more action maybe even on camera. I appreciate the comment 🍻

If you had topped that pop up with a few maggots i think you could on induced a bite, plenty of carp in the swim but they seemed wary of the bright pop up and not really interested in taking it.

Nice!!! Yeah always that one bait on that day. I generally start with a 1/16forageminnow tipped with a waxies, maggots or a minnow head. Then I scale down to a tungsten with some time one maggot. It’s fun when they will eat anything so you can get away with using plastics

Hi Galen - Brilliant set of videos and you are totally right when you say that a badly tied D-Rig is not as effective as we would like; in my opinion the D-Rig you showed in the video was pants lol. The beauty of the LQ rig is it's simplicity and reproducibility. I changed from D-Rig to LQ when I first joined the Pallatrax team. My catch rate hasn't improved significantly but the quality of my end rig has - it is the same every time and I can tie it anywhere and anytime with no fuss. What is important to me is that my catch rate hasn't dropped off whereas others on the same venues have suffered considerably. So perhaps the LQ Rig is more effective particularly as the fish get older and wiser. I first used the hair rig back in the mid to late 1970's, needless to say our catch rates soared but over time this eroded. We constantly changed and tried to improve the rigs we had. Once again in my opinion rigs have become the be all and end all, over complicated and rarely the same. The general narrative tends to disregard watercraft, bait quality and application and perhaps most importantly; bringing the whole package together to catch our beautiful quarry. I catch more nowadays on simple float or float ledger tackle in the margins on high quality bait that the fish love to eat and the most simple and reproducible rig I can get away with. Keep up the great work with the videos - I learn so much by watching them, along with those from Fox/Nash/Korda etc. etc P.S. Sorry for the length of this message

Thanks Steven! I appreciate the input and taking the time to write the comment. I haven’t used that rig since the day this was filmed hahaha it was not tied right at all. I do have other video that shows it didn’t work well either when tied right. Still caught loads of fish but not efficiently
