Best focal length ever and perhaps one of the top lenses ever made. Stick a Tiffen Black Glimmerglass 1/2 strength on it for your outdoor shooting and watch it's "clinical" come alive with character.

Thank you for the tips! I've been wanting to sell my photos as postcards forever. I did a couple of times and sold them at little markets, but I hadn't known about the Moo option. Thank you for your content and beautiful photographs/postcards!

This was the first lens I bought for my Sigma fp L - Loved it from the get go, light, well made and sharp. I've just purchased a 85mm 1.4 DG DN and had it for now 2 months, everything you say, rings try. Very likely i'll sell the 85mm as the 65mm does everything the 85 does, while being lighter and smaller

This is just for my kind of taste. Your forest photographs are just right. I very much photograph at random as well, and often. ( Almost all my photographs wouldn't sell, you know what we mean!? ) A lot of times just with my cell phone camera. Many times a cell phone is sufficient. I cant always wear my bulky Sony mirrorless . Oh, and lots of forest around where I live, in Northern Ontario. And selling postcards sounds grand. That's the search term that brought me to your channel. Still on planning stage for my website.. Haha. Thanks for your content.

thanks for bringing up this theme - I prefer the 65 mm in full frame because it is more useful in rooms and at nearer surrounding... if I have enough space and want this more "artificial" blurring and the separation I would choose a 105 or 135 mm lens (e.g. the 1.4 or 1.8 from Sigma, but also the excellent 105 2.8 macro)

I do not think that a 65mm is an "odd" focal length. I have had a Leica Macro-Elmarit R 60mm 2.8 for many years, now I have the Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical which is an excellent Lens, built like a tank and it has outstanding image quality. I would like the new compact series from Sigma, but I do not like that they are so dependent of software to perform. I think a 60/65mm Lens is an excellent "do-it-all" Lens, it is very versatile for a lot of different kinds of photography. By the way, a Camera is a tool, not a jewelry !

Hey Andy! Nice quick review... I use a few similar lights for my product photography and video work, and have found that even the 60W lights are surprisingly powerful. I have 4x Godox SL60W and 2x SL200W lights. They're single colour lights (daylight balanced) so, I know that they're always putting out either 60 or 200 watts. I also know that some of the older grid style LED panels used to mention combined power usage (60w when white LEDs are 30w and yellow LEDs are 30w), I suspect that this one doesn't work in that way, does it?
@AndyDay
@AndyDay Жыл бұрын
Yep, a bit shocked at how much power comes out of this thing given the money. Yep, the lux is measured at 5700 kelvin (I think) - there's probably some variation as the temperature shifts but I've no means of measuring it. Not that I need to. 😆

Thanks for the video, been doing photography as a hobby for 10+ years and never bothered to do anything with it in a professional sense. Met a photographer in my local park recently who mentioned all the ways they sell their photos and it really inspired me to chase it up. Postcards look like an excellent entry point. One thing I would suggest to people who don't want to setup a store front is contact your local independent shops if you have any near you. There's community shops in my area that already sell postcards produced by local photographers and I know of one shop that doesn't sell any - hopefully that'll be my entry point.

Any thoughts between this and the Sony 55mm 1.8? I own a 35mm plus the Sony 55mm 1.8. Since owning the 35mm I have been using the 55 much less - I wondered if this 65mm might be a better pairing. I also own the Sony 85mm 1.8 but I do find it's too tight to use indoors a lot of the time.

@@darrenhaken Don't know if this is still relevant but if you own the 55mm, you can crop by x1.18 to get a 64.9mm focal length equivalent with an equivalent aperture of 2.12 which is very close to this sigma lens. try shooting with the 55mm a little wider than you want and do a slight crop to see if you like it, the compression should be identical. there should only be a marginal difference in image quality and resolution but even if you are shooting at 24mp you would still have a 18mp file.
@charruaporelmundo
@charruaporelmundo Жыл бұрын
@@Samuel-vm7hn Not the same, croping in post than shooting in camera in terms of feeling, also, the 65 destroy in term of resolution the 55. I have both, thinking on selling the 55 since I'm not using it any more, specially after I got the 50 f2 , also from sigma

I have both the 55mm and the 65mm and I would use the 65mm over the 55mm everytime. I've been using the 55mm for 2 years and the lens is indeed fantastic but the CA is what I find most annoying about it. When I switched to the 65mm I found that it's much sharper the CA is much more controlled even at f2.0 it's sharp across the whole lens and I don't have to stop down to get it how I want. But I will say indoors 65 does feel cramped, and I would recommend sticking to 40mm and below for indoors.

Fun fact: Hugh Brownstone tested this lens at the same magnification level of Sigma's more expensive 85mm f1.4 Art DG DN and the 65mm out resolved it by a significant margin. It's that sharp! a must have in my opinion if you're looking for a less constricting portrait lens.

I am looking to replace my sony 85 1.8 with either the sigma 85 dgdn or, since I have the 50art and 105art for e-mount, I feel I would love the 65 f2 for its focal length, AF, sharpness, flare control and weight... I think it would replace my 50 and 85 nicely. But I still would love to find a worthy comparison between the 65 dgdn-C and the 85 dgdn art... Any advice you could share? I see reviews show the 85 is in all respects awesome, can the 65 actually be sharper? AF and contrast similare or better on one or the other? I wonder what the light transmission is on each?

Beautiful shots Andy at that trash 58mm focal! Though I think it is more suited for object photography than landscape. And due to your symptoms thats definitely covid! But maybe you tested a bit late so it got negative. Or it can be long covid. Which I have and it really sux as it remains for long long time! It has totally decreased my life quality by fatigue and being sleepy. I hope you get better soon

@AndyDay 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I only just saw this comment! And yes, there are a lot of things that point to Covid so it would make sense, but I had hardly seen anyone and no-one I saw had covid. Plus I tested quite early on and then repeatedly every other day, pretty much - all negative. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference either way. I avoided people and slowly got better, fortunately. Three weeks of feeling not right, so you have a lot of my sympathy for your long covid. I hope it sorts itself out very soon!
