It's amazing to pass it regularly and watch it grow. The arches for the main span are being built offsite and they're looking good, too. They will get delivered by barge when it's time and then lifted into place. Turns out you can actually build stuff if you stop making excuses and do it. Same goes for NJT's Raritan River bridge.

Low platform and directly in front of a high-speed corridor, seems very unsafe ngl
@YuqiLinux3 ай бұрын
Indeed. Even though the trains on Track 4 (close to the platform) is on stricter speed limit than on the other tracks, I did feel the shock wave being much more powerful than those felt on the high platforms.

You sir, are a TROOPER. One of the reasons the southern portion of the Northeast Corridor stands out to me, is the freight traffic. Like HEAVY freight traffic, not 4-10 car trains. Nice video.

Thanks! I loved it so much when I ran into it at Newerk DE before when Acela met a freighter at the Amtrak station. I also noticed some freight traffic at Metropark station in the mid-Jersey section and hoping to catch it sometime soon.

@YuqiLinux4 ай бұрын
@@davidbashay6286 It’s actually hard to tell. I see that the business class car is usually at one end of the train, but I’m not really sure if it’s always the case, especially in some consists there could be two locomotives with one at the rear.

Sounds like the puffer doesn't have a full head of steam. Around 40 years ago, Big Boy did a "farewell" tour down the West Coast and back up where it was to be retired. I remember thinking then, "This is probably the last time I'll see a steam engine, under steam." I also remember the shock of realizing that the pilot wheel I was looking at was turning, and I thought, "When the Hell did this mountain of steel start to move? And how is it so silent?" Then came the first blast of exhaust, and the long whistle, and the silence was broken. I'm still amazed how that much machinery can go into motion without making a sound. I don't know what happened, but I'm really glad that there are now quite a few of those magnificent machines that have been revived and are running again. Apparently a few of them are actually in revenue service. A steamer at the head end of a diesel consist will get a train moving and up to speed with fewer diesel units and once rolling the diesels can do what they're best at. I know they evolved a lot, but those fire breathing monsters are firmly rooted in 18th Century technology. We've come a long way -- I think -- maybe not.
@YuqiLinux5 ай бұрын
@@audryhaynes3277 I’ve never seen a full-size steamer on the move in my life. I gotta see it at least once closely. Good to see some of them still up and running.
