FYI: I found that Glasair used leaded gelcoats completely f-ing up internal antenna's

Happy to find your project. I just purchased a Glasair 1FT kit partially built myself. Never built an airplane so the challenge begins.

I too recently acquired an old unfinished Glasair 1. Looks like my kit was originally shipped in 1984 and is in really excellent shape with very little work done. Mine is not an RG but came with both FT and TD gear. Will be following.

Huge camera improvement and great vids, hope you continued documenting even if it's only for your own sake. If you happen to be in the coastal NC area I'd love to chat and lend a hand if needed.

Good video, I am sure you know this but u can not use ant filler, glazing putty, Bondo, primer & paint with any LED in the chemical content. We made this mistake and none of the built-in antennas work very good due to the primer we used...lol

I reckon the best way to do it is build two. Once you learn how to do the job, it’ll be quicker the second and third time. Keep one, sell the other. I’m half joking but half serious.

advanced-aero.com/ that's the company that made the carbon kits, but from what I've read it was only an introductory limited run production run of them :(

Ha, funny seeing you here, I follow you over on your channel. I'm thinking of building/buying a Glasair. I just sent them an email yesterday about kit prices. Hopefully still available, I didnt see anything about being limited on their site. The only thing that struck me odd was under the pricing and specs, there was no pricing info. We'll see.

@@David-ty1xz haha, small world...Maybe I'll do more aviation stuff on my channel in the future! I contacted them about a year ago or so and prices were 99k ish for the G2 kit

@@hcr-motorworks Ekk. Well I think its a moot point. I found a message board somewhere a few hours ago that a guy emailed them about kits, and that was almost 2 months ago without any response. Been on Barnstormers and theres a few kits on there for less than that. Whats your aviation background? I'm an A&P and a 121 pilot.
@hcr-motorworks
@hcr-motorworks 3 жыл бұрын
@@David-ty1xz Yea but those kits were manufactured in the 80'-90's and are fiberglass...these new ones are carbon fiber throughout, something to consider. maybe we can go in halvsies and buy the manufacturing rights back from em?! haha shoot me a DM on facebook/instagram and I'll tell ya more about my aviation background.

I was a Young fella growing up in Regina Sask Canada when I saw my first Glasair, It was love at first sight. I really like how this design takes all the advantages of working in glass but maintains some very classic appeal at the same time. Some fast glass kits look like an over used bar of soap with wings. I likely won't get any closer to Glasair ownership then the framed poster of Bob Herendeen pulling a Saturn 5 with Mount Baker in the background. Interesting that the picture of Bob in N540RG was shot with Mt. Baker on the same radial of sight as my view where I now live in Whatcom county Washington state. Thanks for sharing your build and I look forward to your progress.

I also built a G1-RG been flying it since 2004. Took me almost 20 years to finish it. I also have dual sliding canopies and am glad I went that route. Much nicer for taxing in hot weather. You should also consider to add the dorsal extension in front of the vertical stabilizer. Makes it more stable in yaw. Let me know if you'd like to make contact
