The location of the train's second passing is El Campo (The Field), not El Champo (The Shampoo)! 🤣🤣🤣 Despite its Spanish-language name, El Campo is a largely Czech community. As for tender capacity, 12,000 imperial gallons equals 14,411 US gallons. They are not the same!

Majestic machine! But this is actually way bigger news than people realize. Mexicans are going out by the thousands to wave because not only is this an amazing piece of history but to Mexico this marks a new beginning. The trains are coming back to Mexico. Canada, US and Mexico are now fully connected by rails and Mexico is investing heavily on reviving its once great rail network. They are also competing with Panama by building its own rail “canal” at the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the Tren Maya in the Yucatán peninsula. Mexico has plans to connect the Maya Train to Belize and Guatemala. Americans and Canadians should be happy about this because Mexico is quickly becoming industrialized and bringing back all the manufacturing jobs from Asia. This will not only benefit Mexico but all of North America and Mexico doesn’t want to leave Central America behind. Helping Central America will be the only viable way to reduce mass migration. Mexico has a great plan but America is way too proud to admit it’s right. American politicians keep pushing the anti Mexico/invade Mexico agenda because they can’t stand the thought of Mexico becoming a Leftist, Humanitarian country that renationalized the petroleum and electric industries as well as nationalizing lithium. Current Mexican President AMLO has gained so much respect for Mexico around the world in the last 6 years and has started a movement called the 4th Transformation of Mexico. Now Claudia Sheinbaum, the new president elect of Mexico, will continue with what’s is referred to as the 2nd level of the 4th Transformation. Remember that American politicians know that there always needs to be an enemy and they sadly keep making it Mexico and its people. Mexico has always been a humanitarian country that remains neutral helps anyone that needs it (to a point of even helping others before its own people) and always asks for peace among nations. America is just too greedy and proud to allow Mexico to solve its issues. They create the problem and try to force their own solution on you, and that solution hardly ever helps your country.
Umm... Mexico, the U.S. and Canada have been connected by rail for over 140 years.

Great footage, I chased her from Kendleton TX to San Diego. El Campo through the park was probably my favorite place, hitting that small section of jointed rail.

For such a beautifully restored locomotive and a major excursion, It seems that someone needs to teach this younger generation of engineers on how to operate the whistle on a steam locomotive...and give it a little more character as a seasoned engineer would do....it is apparently becoming a lost art. That sounds awful. Its a steam locomotive....not a tug boat. I guess they are more concerned with safety and following FRA protocol than sounding like a true historic steam locomotive at grade crossings. A good engineer can get a much more traditional, varied pitch steam whistle sound even if it isn't a 3, 4 or 5 chime whistle such as those on many American Baldwin Locomotives. At least it's not a hooter. For those who don't understand my comments, below is just an example more traditional steam locomotive whistle sounds.......and a great video of a photo freight charter at the EBT in November of 2023. kzbin.info/www/bejne/embEdGWppdWaiMUsi=H28t4Minou8juYMt

I have to know that someone has mentioned this before but what a horrible sounding steam whistle, but sometimes it sounds is if 2816 has 2 steam whistles, one that is just horrible and the other like one you'd expect to hear from such a majestic locomotive. I can't wait until it shows up in Silvis, Illinois at the end of the month to give excursion.

She has two whistles. The original lovely steam whistle and an air activated whistle from a 2-10-4 Selkirk which does sound awful. Apparently, the air one is far louder and from what I have heard, is sometimes required by regulations as the steam whistle is “not loud enough”🙄Hopefully you get a chance to hear her steam whistle, her true voice

Sadly that excursion has been canceled. They will have it on static display in Silvis however.

The 2816 since being restored is fitted with two whistles: The newly fitted is to the left of the stack(31:05), is from a CPR Selkirk, and is air-activated; the other -- in the standard position for most CPR engines -- is the one behind the bell(32:10), from an undetermined CPR engine, and is manually activated by the rod seen running into the cab.

In case you're wondering, the spout with water gushing out of it under the locomotive is on the engineer's side of the cab. The view is under the frame from the fireman's side. The spout is the overflow from the engineer's injector, which is just one of three mechanisms that force water into the boiler to keep it topped up. The injector uses steam for create a venturi effect which jets water heated with steam past the check valve at the side of the boiler. The fireman also has an injector, and the engine is 'fed' by a feedwater heater, which is the golden clad item forward of the cab. on the running board on the side of the locomotive that we see when it is parked near the end of the video. Nice video. Well done!
