SL6 was a lovely bike! This is quite similar to that imo. But feels faster. I really like them. But don’t have much to compare. I watched a gc per video the other day & thought about a bolt change out! 🤘🏼

Black tyres on your SL8 are an upgrade imo and draws the focus more to the colour of the frame. Tan wall tyres tend to suit bikes with a more muted colourway.

And I'm not one of those bizzare people who hates tan walls for the mere fact they are tan walls. And I'm only seeing this through a screen, I may come to agree with you if I saw it in person. I’m back for another comment, the 30 mm are more comfortable but the 28s will give you a tad bit of speed & acceleration than what you’ll get from the 30s. Your new black tires brings out the beauty on that machine @OB rides bikes 🫵🏽😉

Imo, black walled tyres go really well with darker coloured frames. I think it gives them a more sleek and stealthy look, especially if you go for a chrome delete type look.

Yes, I agree about the back end feeling more lively but to me this bike lost some of its spirit. Compared to the SL7 it doesn't really carve down the mountain. It's pretty unresponsive and a bit dead on the feel. I have no idea where the limit is.

Nice build @OB rides bikes. I’m riding Rubino Pros on my Carbon Synapse with Smartsense and Vittoria has been my preferred tire since my racing days. I think your machine will look more wicked with the black tires on the black carbon, opposed to the tan sidewalls. The look appeal is off, try the all black tire with all black bar tape & thank me later 🫵🏽😁

You know what. The 268 is a great bike. Not on the same level - as to be expected imo. The SL8 is great for soaking up the road. It feels fast but effortlessly. The velobuild wants to push you fast but you have to create it. I’d def recommend the velobuild endurance frame - for winter that’s a great option!

This is how you do it-buy the frameset, build the bike whichever way you want it. Well done. Many friends went for this colourway, I think I prefer the white one but it is a matter of taste really. Please share more thoughts when you do some longer rides.

Congrats in the new bike. I tried the SL8 and in my humble opinion, was not a bike for me, too stiff, not a smooth ride and a bit nervous in the curvy down hills.

Pick something with longer chainstays and by all means do not look at Giant TCR😂 If you find the Tarmac nervous, the TCR will be hysterical

Coming from an sl2 S works with all the up to date kit on it, the sl8 is sooo comfortable… damps out all the bumps… this is as comfortable as my gravel bike with 47’s on Zipp 303 sw…..running 28’s at 70psi.

You must try Giant TCR - awesome bike with very very good quality carbon layup and excellent Press Fit bottom bracket. Specialized are made from merida, and have BSA bottom bracket (theeaded BB are way worse than press fit!!)

@@matkrek 🤣 it’s not true. You must read stiffness chart (from Tour magazine). TCR and overall Giant carbon frames technology is miles ahead Specialized (Merida). Specialized have only good marketing and they tell You sweet things about their products. SL7 and SL8 have poor BSA threaded bottom bracket because they can’t producing good quality (high tolerance) frames in BB area. So because using poor (theeaded with inserts) BB they frames are less stiff and słower. TCR have much more responsiveness and less wattage leak from suport (BB)

@@matkrek marketing bullshit rulez 👌 Maybe for sprinters (1500 -2000 Watts at last sprint) but for all-round riding (especially for climbing) TCR is one of the best in class. Giant have his own R&D for carbon fiber and have one of the best composite layout in whole world (TIME frames are probably even better in this departament)
