@@yanafloat Cheers mate, but I do eventually want to be able to do it myself...one day. Will be interested to see how the antifoul removal goes if you film it :)

Carbs rebuilt, Impeller changed, Prop Checked, Spark Plugs changes, HT Leads checked / replaced, Thermostats changed and even head gasket, Carbs cleaned, primer solenoid rebuilt. What job shall I do next? I've got some cosmetic stuff like straightening the skeg and repainting the outboard. I'd like to do a tune up and see if the idle can get a bit smoother, but maybe a shakey idle is the nature of the 2 stroke beast? Perhaps the reed valves need checking. More jobs for the future! What shall I tackle next?
@fat_tommo_goes_boating6 күн бұрын
The paint looks ok on the outboard. I always found those OMC outboards were not as smooth on idle as other makes, the paint looks ok too. The boat will be faster with the antifoul off but it's a time consuming job
@yanafloat6 күн бұрын
@ oh man, if you saw the paint up close. I used a bit of carb cleaner spray to remove some sludge and only noticed after that it strips paint! I’ve got like drips of paint that’s been stripped all down the exhaust housing and lower unit oops. Re the anti foul, you might have noticed this grey but on the right of the transom, that’s where I’ve started with paint stripper. When the weather improves a little more I’ll try and finish that corner and see how it ends up, at least if that’s cleaned off I can fit my self levelling trim tabs (another job)

In your earlier video you mention loose steering. I have the same boat and had the same problem, 30 year old cable steering. No need to go hydraulic though, I used SSX17713 XTREME Tilt NFB Steering Kit. Worked great.
@yanafloat2 ай бұрын
@@coldstig8293 really good to know! How did you swap the cable over? was it easy enough to just pull it through or did you need to lift floors etc?
@coldstig82932 ай бұрын
@@yanafloat The pull was fine. You just tie a rope on when you pull the old one out. Then use that to pull the new one back in. You will want to remove the panel behind the throttle shift lever. It's 13 foot cable, but i'd do both the cable and the helm, I had slop in both. My only problem was the cable hit the engine well when trying to remove it from the engine steering tube. I do not have a cut out for the rigging to pass into the starboard rear compartment like you do. So I had to lift my engine off to get the old cable out. It looks like yours will pass back into that hole to allow removal. Also, I use an OZ hydrofoil on the cavitation plate to control bow rise. Works well, I did not want to add trim tabs.
@yanafloatАй бұрын
@@coldstig8293thanks for the info, this is a job I want to try. I’ve got a pair of bennet slt10 self levelling trim tabs sat around waiting to be fitted but I need to clean the back up first from old anti foul and figure out how to install them. It looks like I need to drill some extra holes as I can’t get the angle right under the swim step.

I still have the scammers phone number…

Sorry to hear they did that to you too! I reckon it’s probably a burner phone. Auto trader sends a message occasionally a few days after someone contacts you to let you know they are up to no good and then their phone stops. In my case our guy re-contacted me to let me know his new number but I was already onto him at that point.

On my old trot mooring, I had a larger "link line" and in it I had 3 looped bowlines in it, then I would come up alongside, put one loop over the stern cleat first, then walk up the boat hook the next loop over the centre cleat, then the next on the bow. Then I'm on the mooring and the bow and stern lines which are tied to the link line can be picked up and untied and put on the cleats at leisure. I only had one bow and one stern mooring line because the link line stayed on and was effectively mooring a line too, it was also out the water, so not as dirty
