The story I remember about Dad's service is that he was loading ordinances and volunteered for other duties. He ended up as a radar man on the USS Ticonderoga. At his duty station one day he saw a blip coming toward the ship. He sent word of it up the chain of command. The blip, an enemy airplane, was subsequently shot down. Dad was given a sticker for his radar monitor. WTG, Dad!
