Does this gradient change colour in render preview as you rotate the angle from which you are looking at it? This is what I am wanting to avoid.

it's mapped to the surface of the object so if you move the camera then the gradient will move relative tot he camera. but you could instead of mapping the gradient to object or UV in the mapping node you can use the "Camera" mapping output for the texture coordinates input. That will keep it fixed no matter the angle of the camera.. just ensure the background object is in the camera's FOV
