Lookin good dude. I'm familiar with plumbing, having grown up with a master plumber as a father who had his own business. But I am now trying to get back into plumbing, and the best i can find is a helper type job. Nobody is looking to send me to school. Just curious if anyone knows what I can do to heighten my chances of becoming an apprentice

A couple things I disagree with: 1. The only way to 100% leak test is plugging both the tub spout and shower head pipe. 2. Clean the old caulk around tub spout. Otherwise, nice video!

The device you’re referring to is likely a thermal release device (TRD). These devices are often filled with a special oil and are designed to release pressure and prevent overheating in water heaters. The oil inside helps to detect temperature changes and activate the safety mechanism1.

I put a new cartridge in, but it leaks out if the bottom of the handle. Any reasons why?
@theartofplumbingАй бұрын
I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your Moen 1225 tub and shower cartridge. There are a few common reasons why it might be leaking from the bottom of the handle: Incorrect Installation: Ensure the cartridge is properly aligned and fully seated in the valve. Sometimes, even a slight misalignment can cause leaks. Damaged O-Rings or Seals: Check the O-rings and seals for any damage or wear. These components are crucial for preventing leaks and might need to be replaced. Debris in the Valve: Debris or mineral buildup inside the valve can prevent a proper seal. Cleaning the valve thoroughly before installing the new cartridge can help. Cartridge Orientation: Make sure the cartridge is installed with the correct orientation. The “H” and “C” markings should be aligned properly to ensure a good fit. If you’ve checked these and the issue persists, it might be worth consulting Moen’s customer support or a professional plumber for further assistance.

When adding like washer drain to sewer drain where do u put the vent in the washer drain or in the sewer line
@theartofplumbingАй бұрын
Vent Placement: The vent should be placed on the washer drain line, not directly on the sewer line. This is because the vent needs to be as close as possible to the washer to effectively release any trapped air and prevent siphoning of the P-trap. How to Vent: P-Trap Installation: First, install a P-trap on the washer drain line. This U-shaped pipe holds water, creating a barrier that prevents sewer gases from coming back up through the drain. Vent Pipe: From the P-trap, run a vent pipe vertically upwards. This pipe should connect to the main vent stack of your house, which typically extends through the roof. The vent stack allows air to enter the plumbing system, balancing the pressure and ensuring smooth drainage. Alternative Venting: If connecting to the main vent stack is not feasible, you can use an Air Admittance Valve (AAV), also known as a Studor vent. This valve allows air to enter the drain line when needed but prevents sewer gases from escaping into your home By following these steps, you ensure that your washer drain is properly vented, which helps maintain a healthy and efficient plumbing system. If you’re unsure about the installation, it’s always a good idea to consult with a licensed plumber to ensure everything is up to code.

If you had access to the pipes and valve from the rear, why did you cut such a huge opening in the tiled front of wall that then required the oversized renovation cover plate. Thanks!

The flex vent was fine. It just can’t pass through the ceiling. The single wall was definitely wrong though. Needs to be B vent through ceiling and roof with at least 1 inch clearance to combustibles.

Good video. Here is what I have done and I have never stopped the key down the drain. I used a threaded rod and grinded on one end of the rod two flat spots so it goes through the turning hole of the key. Then you can secure the rod to the key with a couple of nuts. On the top of the rod away from the key you can jam two nuts and use a wrench to turn the key or you can drill through the rod and used a metal rod to have a T handle. That solves the problem and worth the little effort if you are a Plummer. For a one time installation I will still stuff a glove in the pipe.

That little packet is not oil, but 'food grade' silicone grease. This grease will remain in place for many, many years as it resists being mixed with or washed away by water. Soap does not have this important property. This 'plumber's grease' is carried by all pro plumbers, since it is used on O-rings and most other rubber seals found in many water and plumbing applications. Any never use Vaseline on plumbing seals as it will speed deterioration of rubber parts.

Hello! I am going to do the Saniflo system in my basement soon. Close towards the front of my house. The problem i think i’m overthinking is the discharge line and the vent line. My main stack is a distance from where the bathroom would be and my original bathroom is pretty much aligned with it. The utility sink is more close to where the bathroom is going. Could i use the utility drain or do I need to run pipes from one end (where bathroom will be) to the other end of my basement? Also, as far as the vent line/pipe if I do make a new line do I have to run it all the way up to the roof? Or can i just make a hole and have it only coming out a couple feet? Sorry for long question I’m a diy’er just trying to figure it out before jumping right out.

Thanks for that link. Maybe I am reading the codes wrong, but unless the pump in your video is pneumatic, P3113.4.1 says that other than pneumatic, I can use the house vent. Only pneumatic pumps (P3113.4.2) need to have their own dedicated vent. I am asking because I am going to install a pump, and want to do it right. Thanks again sir.
