This is the best video I've seen about explaining the different between bony and tendonous mallet. I got the injury on my right ring finger. It is a tendonous mallet. My therapist put me in an anti swan neck position, which is good. Just a question tho. Am I allowed to move my pip joint passively to avoid it getting stiff while the dip still being splinted?

I just had surgery, and it was the most painful thing I've gone through. It was a just a tendon mallet. Instead of a nerve block they tied me down and kept sticking me with freezing needles with no pause until the surgeon goes "ok, now this is the worst part" and stuck me in the tip of my finger. Then he paused to make sure I was froze before he started cutting me. OMG!!! He also had my finger in an over extended position in the splint that I wore for almost 3 months before he decided to operate. He said my finger was trying to heal when I complained about the pain that the splint was causing. He barely looked at it before dismissing me. I went to my family doctor, but it took a bit to get in (my 40+ year family doctor retired but had another doctor take over her practice, and it took a while for the transfer). She said I had a pressure sore starting, and the knuckle itself was inflamed. She said stop wearing that splint because you obviously have a defect that he's going to surgically repair. She put me on an antibiotic for the pressure sore and Voltaren for the inflammation because I can't take NSAIDS. It hadn't broken my skin but was red, swollen, painful, and had some small blisters on it. I ended up with a QUACK!!! I have a month of healing to do niw and then the pin gets removed. I'm just hoping it heals, and it doesn't hurt when he takes the pin out.....

I am an old lady who has osteoporosis. I fell while playing tennis and broke my right wrist (radial fracture). I complained about pain in my left wrist at the time, but no fracture was seen on x-ray and it was assumed it was "sprained". After a few weeks delay, I had surgery and a few therapy visits on my right wrist. Then I realized there were movements with my left wrist I could not perform. Obviously, I used my left hand for everything during the several week period that my right hand was immobilized. They performed a second x-ray (Now 3+ months after the injury with no attempt to stabilize my left wrist or to limit my movement of it) and discovered I had a fracture that required surgery. It had clearly worsened from what must have been a hairline fracture initially. :( The surgeon seemed to be leaning toward not trying to repair it but to remove it along with 2 other small bones in my wrist, resulting in a 50% reduction in the range of motion of my left wrist. I said "No". I wanted to give it the opportunity to heal even if the chance of that happening was only 50%. So he performed the surgery, with a bone graft and screw 4 months after the initial injury :((. I was told I might be in a cast for 8-10 weeks. He assumed that because I was old and had osteoporosis it was unlikely to heal or in a best case scenario, would take a long time to heal. Luckily, he was wrong (and he did a good job on the surgery). My scaphoid was completely healed in 5-6 weeks. :) No therapy required afterward. I have full range of motion and no pain. It took about 5 months before I could put my full body weight on that wrist. (push up) Yes, it was a scary injury, but even for us old people, there is a good chance it will heal.

I fractured my 3rd metacarpal and had a full tfc tear (I believe it's a ligament in my wrist) about a month ago. Shit was terrible and I worked for like 2 weeks with the tesr and something popped at work idk what it was but they took an MRI a couple weeks ago. Woke up one day after a night of partying and my hand could hardly twist or bear weight and my wrist was swollen and slightly bruised. Then the pain went up to my hand and back of my hand pretty badly and my fingers couldn't bear weight or bend after the pop at work. Idk shit sucked and still dose I could hardly pull up my pants or pull my hair into a pony tail and im off work for like another 2 weeks dang near and don't get paid shit barely. I'm in a heavy lifting job and I'm a small woman rip

I have had one of these for a boxers break. Super quick to apply, can shower with it, and is very light weight. They can also apply it in a way where you can take it off to shower and put it back on... If not thought, these are water safe.

I had a second metacarpal shaft fracture a decade ago. The pain never fully went away and has slowly gotten worse over time. Do you have any videos with exercises that might be helpful? I’m in the states and in an unfortunate situation with our notoriously bad insurance system, so looking at about 4 months before I can even get seen. :-( Anything would help.

Hey, guys. Nick, here Had a scaphoid fracture at the beginning of June 2023 (medial part, the one between distal and proximal) Went to the doctor straight that day and was diagnosed with scaphoid fracture on my left wrist[Fell from the bicycle]. I was wearing a cast for 3 months. Now, its December, more than 6 months passes. The wrist is generally fine and quite recovered. I can do a lot of things: ride bycycle, play tennis, but still there is a light pain when I abruptly bend my wrist and put pressure on it. For example, I can do push ups, but only when I stabilize the pressure on the wrist. Thus, what I want to say is that the fracture is quite serious and early detection is extremely important. Not doing anything with it for a few weeks can have life-long lasting effect. When you do everything on time, they say it might take up to 9 months (to fully recover, which I really hope), but still it might not recover perfectly event after that time Take care

In my right hand, the 5th Metacarpal was broken into two pieces. This happened at work (Long story). It was hurting quite a bit, but since it was the Meta-Car-Pal, I jumped into my car and still managed to shift the gears with my busted hand on the way to the hospital;. LOL. Anyhow at the hospital everyone else seemed to be moaning and groaning about their problems. It seemed ridiculous. The doctor that saw me started bending and twisting my hand while asking me if it hurt. It did. So in a quiet monotone voice, I said "Yes that hurts.". He concluded with 100% certainty, that my hand was just badly bruised. But he did say that he did not want to lose his job, and thus had to take an x-ray of my hand. When he saw the x-ray, his jaw dropped. I was then RAPIDLY taken care of, and the two pieces of bone were re-aligned and some kind if fiber cast was shaped to hold everything in place.

I've never been so happy to have a broken bone in my life if it means a better chance of this dumb finger healing right. Trashed my plans for the whole summer. They gave me a cast for six weeks, then I'm supposed to switch to a splint. Any idea why they wouldn't just do a splint the whole time? Sucks having to bag my hand every time I shower, clean, wash dishes, cook, etc. because the dang cast can't get wet.

So I’ve got the tendon mallet finger. Happened on 19/3/23. It’s now 5/6/23. The doctor misdiagnosed it. She thought it was ‘trigger finger’. I wasn’t happy with this diagnosis because the doctor didn’t even see me! Waste of space! I went to see my physio on 21/3/23 and she told me it was mallet finger. I was put into a splint on 22/3/23 for 8 weeks by the hand unit/physio. Been seen by the hand unit at the hospital. Not been much help to be honest. No exercises offered. 10 weeks have gone by and the finger is still the same as it was 10 weeks ago-still drooping! What now? It’s been a complete and utter waste of time! Do they really know what they are doing any more?

When I saw an orthopedic surgeon specializing in wrist injuries gave me a split that was maybe 1/3 as well made as the one shown at 1:33. He explained almost none of the things that are explained here.
