Very good Meghna! End Colonialism! Horizon Zero got a bit white capitalist co-opting of indigenous narratives, not that it would be your intention at all. We are all tied inside this and we are compelled to fight. Your words and thoughts are much needed. Stay Strong! loved 80 Days, needs more. Thirsty Suitors looks fun

24:21 Or maybe you Cosmosis'd it from grandma? lol Pardon the 5am dad jokes. Bought your Cello library 14 years ago. "Orange Meditation" baby! Nice to see you've putting all your infinite creativity into other avenues yet still able to apply your musical talents. Will look into your games! Wish you the best bud!

11:30 As far as satisfying feelings go, there's not much that can top that feedback loop of a game helping notice something in the real world and then bringing it back to the game. It's why I find myself spending more time in PICO-8 and Minecraft than I do playing most other games.

Fantastic talk overall! I love Tunic, and many of your goals are my aspirations, too. The person who mentioned Meg Jayanth's 80 Days GDC talk hit on a key topic: there is a fundamental difference between the discovery and joy associated with exploring a thing in and of itself and with the equivalent scripted experience. Your work on Tunic is a true gift to everyone, especially those who've never had the chance to understand a thing far enough to have that sort of aha moment.

I cannot state how great this talk is, I’ve been thinking about “how we learn” and have formulated some theories and strategies myself, this talk links so many of those ideas together, and I feel like I’ve finally see a clear network in learning, how we learn

This is amazing! Good work, making videogames is the ultimate challenge; one can try to simulate from physics to human behaviour; and dwarf fortress tackles lots of them!

I don't think Jonathan's really engaged a lot with the board game and tabletop RPG spaces, which kind of surprises me. They're both much more exercises in "pure" game design, because the actual implementation and iteration of the design ideas is extremely easy compared to videogames. The design is almost always the most important thing about these games. There are also active veteran game designers in both of those spaces that fulfill his criteria about having long careers with impactful, relevant work done throughout their whole career. People like Reiner Knizia, Richard Garfield, Eric Lang,, Vlaada Chvatil, Uwe Rosenberg for the board game space or Vincent Baker, Luke Crane, and John Harper in the TTRPG space. The smaller production requirements for analog games make it much easier for a designer to have control over the entire thing, which is just impossible in a large scale, multidisciplinary project like a big, ambitious videogame.

Like most of the players, he's underestimating the benefit of maximizing focus. A focused character can hit well above their weight and achieve greater successes with less skill. That goes for all units, fortress and adventurer mode.

This was one of the more chaotic lectures I´ve ever watched. If you want deeper insights into how games and cinema differ or influence each other you won´t find it here. This was a stream om random facts and words. Whenever I wasn´t trying to stay focused following Gita down another branching off path away from her intended subject I found myself disagreeing with her point and thinking “how can someone have misunderstood something so fundamentally”.
