Hello. thanks for the very impressive video and drumming skills. Any chance you looked at the new Yamaha Finger Drum Pad FGDP 50, very impressive tool? As someone who is still very new to Ableton and not yet got a Push, do you think i should get the Yamaha or would it be a better investment to get the Push. My style of music is Classic disco, multi-instrumentalist looping as a solo artist.
@ColibrisMusicLive11 ай бұрын
Hi, probably start with a controller combining keyboard, knobs and pads, something like novation launch key, these have 'native' scripts for ableton and are connected to ableton clip session view, looping and so

This is a brilliant and creative way to drumming on trigger pads. Setting the same sample to multiple, adjacent pads (some panned different directions or processed with just slight differences) really gives you little "drum head" sections to play intricate, nuanced patterns on using all your fingers. Pads these days are great at picking up dynamics in terms of loudness/softness but you've effectively added more dimensions by setting your samplers/simplers up this way. Really great work.
@ColibrisMusicLive Жыл бұрын
thank you :) well said, pads are very sensitive, i only wish more products as the Korg wave drum will emerge having a synth engine with a real drumhead (it has internal midi + a microphon)

Hey, decent jam! I seem to have a problem with my setup. Ive got the tempest Midi out into the ND3p, set to global 10. When I play tempest I can hear the ND3p being triggered, but when I record into the tempest, or the midi into Ableton, it doesnt pass the midi thru to the ND3p.... any ideas?

Why did you choose the akai APC over the Push 2? I have the Push 2 and cant get into it that much but would love to have a decent controller that Covers all the basics for ableton. I also still miss a Sampler, are you using the APC for that? I also First thought about getting a drumbrute impact as a drum synth, would you say the tempest has more usage especially in drum & Bass/IDM/complex drum patterns? I saw It has 6 outs while the dbi has 4, but im not sure about which would fit better 😁 It seemed Like you are triggering a lot of creative Sounds with it. Anyways great session and thanks for this amazing song ❤️🕉️
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
Hi Thanks and great questions which i also consider a lot :) i have also the Push2. i use it mainly for chopping samples and arranging drum racks. i find the APC is much better for live performance: 1. no need for paging since there is enough assignable knobs and buttons 2.the faders are a must since in live you want to manipulate multiple tracks quickly - moving multiple faders at once. For samples i use drum rack triggered by presonus atom pads
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
regarding Push2: pros: 1.best dynamic pads for finger drumming, 2. great work flow with samples and the drum rack. 3. very good for sketching ideas,MIDI overdubbing... i find it is not so helpfu cons: i think it is not so good as Ableton controller, maybe only for a project with fixed number of tracks, but when you have more, paging not practical.
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
about Tempest: I don't think it is specifically good for one genere or other, I would say it is the 'swiss knife synth'. for me as a drummer the top priority is the ability to create sounds which response well to dynamic drumming (velocity mapping). the tempest has a great modulation matrix and very deep synth engine. but i would say the its biggest thing is its wild character while performing live, it really FEELS like an instrument,, you just tweak the attack decay or filter and the whole beat is transforming under your fingers. it can be also hard to predict

That sounds amazing, I loved the different layers of sound you've got with the patching. I've got my Minibrute few weeks ago and I've been wrapping my head around a question: Is there a way to get the Amp controlled by the AD (the shape of the sound) and the Velocity (the gain of the sound) at the same time? I've been trying different patching but it seems that if you contol the Amp with Velocity, you loose de AD control... Any suggestion?
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for listening! i think it is possible by using the VCA. let me check today
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I tried it now and here is how you can achieve it. the idea is to control the amount of the AD by velocity. try this patch: 1. Velo/Mod 1 => VCA CV 2. AD Out => VCA In 1 3. VCA Out => AMP AM
@ColibrisMusicLive2 жыл бұрын
let me know if it worked for you. BTW, i think it is more expressing having velocity controlling the filter or the ADSR amount. you can achieve it also using the VCA.
@cristobalreyes89872 жыл бұрын
@@ColibrisMusicLive Holy shit it works!!!! Thank you so much!!!! :D The reason I was trying to this it's because I'm controlling the Minibrute with Ableton so I'm using the pressure channel to control the cutoff and now velocity to control the gain... In that way I'm able to actually automate both of them!

@@ColibrisMusicLive 100% agree, I've had it for years but only in the last 6 months become proficient enough in finger drumming to see it's true potential. Once you really start to make use of all that velocity sensitivity and other dynamic modulation, and how you'll go about playing and recording sequences live, it becomes truly unique. I often see people complain that "the hits sound different every time I hit the pad", that's not something to denigrate, that's one of it's major strengths! A wild beast indeed.

@@futuresonic exactly! the assigning parameters such as decay or LFO amount to velocity creates very dynamic sounds, having velicity amount on each envelope is very useful for that. i only wish we could modulate sample start position.
