It could and should have been reinforced, especially with the dramatic increase in tonnage of container ships in the past few decades. The Francis Scott Key bridge was considered fragile for some time.

It was not considered fragile in Maryland. The reality is that in 47 years, thousands of ships passed no problem, that rings complacency. Any bridge hit by a moving 100,00 ton ship will suffer serios damage. But, hindsight is 20/20, and we get a new bridge.

I don't see any of the bridge protection systems that I have seen that would protect from 100,000+ tons moving at 8 knots. From a design standpoint, you would have to allow for at least 200,000 tons and up to 12 knots as they would be in the envelope. They keep showing photos of the Sunshine Skyway bridge. The angle of approach of the Dali would miss the pylon and would hit that little island around the main pier. The Skyway and their protective measures: a 40-year old design when ships were much smaller. MS Summit Venture was around 19,000 tons.

How will and or can this work long term, part's manufactured on earth, machine assembled on earth, then shipped to Mars, the machine runs 2 years and then breaks down. The components needed to repair is on earth, ok, redundancy and spare parts come to mind, but can you imagine redundancy and spares for all the systems need to sustain life on Mars, seems like a big hurdle.

MOXIE served as a prototype/proof of concept to test the technology. When it comes to creating a colony, the technology would be scaled up and be fitted to be served long term. Will still require maintenance, but so will every other system, including solar panels, batteries etc. additionally, it has been proposed to repurpose some oxygen created by the electrolysis of water to provide air to residents. Settling Mars is not an easy task and there’s a reason it has taken decades to even start the process, but it’s possible, and Moxie was designed ti proof this fact.
