I felt the same way. Looking back, Harvey was pretty selfish and insensitive with Donna, especially in S7 while he was in a relationship with Paula. He didn't give her the same support and help that she had given him over time. The first time Harvey put Donna in front of him was when he took it upon himself to break the privilege for her. This sacrifice showed how important she is to him and that he can give up everything to protect her. I think this was essential for them to be able to end up together.

The development of their characters and their relationship was my favorite part of the series. Their relationship was not simple and their path is strewn with a lot of pain, many fights and misunderstandings, but they always found their way to each other and more than anything, they protected their friendship. Donna knew Harvey best, she knew he wasn't perfect, but she loved and accepted him with all his flaws, all his past and all his baggage. Donna tells us in the pilot episode that Harvey is self-centered (and arrogant, boastful...) and this is most evident in their relationship. That is, whatever he does, he thinks of his own interests first. For example, after Jessica fires her, Harvey brings her back, but not because she deserves it in the first place, but because HE "needs" her because "I can't be me without you". Or when he broke her resignation, he didn't do it because she deserved her job, but to ease his conscience and because he couldn't imagine a world without Donna: “-are you okay? - you will be back? -Then I'll be fine" Harvey is a great man but and Donna deserves to be the first choice of a man who will appreciate and love her for the wonderful person wich she is.
