This is my opinion. But as a graphic designer and avid reader, I think you'd sell a lot more if you got better covers. People are very materealistic and if they see a messy cover that has not been given lots of love, they assume your book is not worth the time. Yes, I think your covers are messy/badly done. Good cover = Good content, because the author thought it was wellspent to get a beautiful design. Not every reader thinks that of course, but a bad cover screams cheap/shallow entertainment. And booklovers don't want that. We want quality worth investing 8-12 hours of our lives to, plus it doesn't hurt for the book to look good as we hold it and shelve it later on. Sorry for being brutally honest, I just want to help you get more readers. And since you didn't touch a lot on marketing and design in your video, I wanted to scoot that in there. Otherwise good luck. I hope you get more readers in the future.

@@MafiaArne Appreciate this. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Finding the cash to invest in book cover design is tricky and I will look at ways to improve this part of the marketing. Everything's a learning curve.

@MafiaArne None of those examples were "messy" are you referring to font, layout, photos or overall concept. This is criticism that is far from constructive.
@MafiaArne11 күн бұрын
@@mattsnyderARTIST You're right, it's not good constructive criticism if I don't make it more specific. I'm just afraid it won't make a huge difference for Claudette. But here goes... I think what makes the designs messy are for example the designer's use of thick black borders on almost every font. It is very old-fashioned and messy to look at, and it gets used on a lot of her covers. That mixed with the very curly fonts disconnects from the more passive elements and the design becomes disjointed/cluttered in feeling. The full-blown photo on the cover of "The Specialist" makes people think of brochures instead of books. It seems to lack purpose/it's not a good quality photo for a cover (It doesn't look professional but rather like a random stock image). The importance given to the headlines falls flat. Most of her headliners seem to fight for attention from the other elements because of lots of things, like proper distancing, sizing, color contrast. There are just a lot of "style rules" that are not being followed on her covers. And it makes them look cheap/amatourish. For example "Elite Connection" has a lot of elements that are not interacting with each other or being well-incorporated as a whole piece. I'd chalk it up to rookie "mistakes" made by people who are still new to graphic design. Design is subjective, but everything about her covers signals poorly thought out and cheaply made to me. It lacks thought and cohesive elements. You may not like my accessment, but that's my opnion, however heartless it may come across. Whether or not Claudette wants to use it is up to her entirely. I'm not saying that her books are bad, I haven't read them, but that they may not get a chance to be read if they don't entice the reader first. Bad design destroys credibility.

Ultimately there are X number of hours in a day, and for most of us work takes up a third of that, sleeping takes up another third, and you have to share the remaining third with obligations and necessities. Personally, I tend to cram a couple videos in while I’m eating lunch at work. Contents matter varies, depending on whatever cycle I’m in; politics, music, friends who have KZbin channels ha ha - oh and how to videos from time to time of course

If I was working full-time I would not be creating KZbin channels. Meanwhile, I'm looking for ways to help pay the bills, and monetization with KZbin take a LOT of effort. So, we shall see. Right now, I'm in the learning phase, trial and error, and enjoying the process. Did you notice how many retired folk are starting up new channels? I see it globally (they show up on my feed) and it's mind-boggling. GenX and Boomer...
