BTW, that ‘72 tailgate IS the BEST tailgate Dodge ever developed for the 72-80 light duty trucks! Embossed letters are TITS!

My '76 D-100 had the tank in the cab and never bothered me but I bought it new so it was probably OK then. The truck had plenty of other defects right out of the factory, but it was very economical with the slant six engine. Chrysler hit rock bottom on quality control somewhere around 1978; today's pickups are light years away on how they're built.

Typical Chrysler body of that time period, they only painted where the painter could see - no dipping. The grille is '74-76.

Mine liked to slosh out the filler neck as well. Turned out it just needed a new gas cap because the old one's gasket was cracked and falling apart.

I own a 1972 Dodge D100 and my grill is the same you had before switching with that guy Jason. So, that grill didn't come from the manufacturers? I still don't get it. Was it just changed or replaced by someone because they wanted to? Or maybe some 72 trucks were just built like this?

Great job on saving it so many of those older trucks are not hit in the yard I've been restoring a 1982 Chevy myself but I love those old rigs no matter the make or model did a good job on that Dodge you just don't get that true Pride anymore when you buy a new vehicle they don't sound the same and these newer vehicles are built cheap to keep restoring that Dodge enjoy the memories of it she sounds great like the video.

1972 was the first year for those generation Dodge D-series pickups & were produced up through 1980.

As a child growing up my father had one of these. And recently we talked about it and I asked what had happened to it. So he told me that he gave it away because he couldn’t get a hold of the title for it so he had to let it go. I just found one of these on offer up for $1500 but I don’t have the money right now to buy it so I’m trying to see if he’s willing to lower the price. Hopefully I can get my hands on it! It would be nice to restore it and gift it to my father.

Pretty good work. You may want to join us over on the Tin Grill group. facebook.com/groups/470766243073826/?fref=nf And you will find your welds would be much better, and easier if you can switch to non flux core and start using mixed gas. Much less spatter, and less warpage with sheet metal with the arc being much cooler. Flux core is not the best for sheet metal work.
