Lego should make a different mold for Asian elephants I mean the old one is cool but in real life the African elephant is larger than the Asian elephant

I was hoping Lego would make the new elephant be able to move its back legs at least like the horses have. Lego does not like to makes fantastic things anymore.

I know that the new one is in a savannah set, but based on the size of its ears (and the size overall) and with how the tusks are more vertical, I’d say it looks more like an African forest elephant. Forest elephants tend to be only eight feet tall, making them the shortest elephant species.

Found your channel through/from your comment on Holly’s recent video, about her being removed from the LAN Program (I commented there, too…). Just subscribed to your KZbin channel! …not necessarily saying it is the “Next LEGO” here, but I had developed a building & construction toy that I call TI’TAINS (pronounced “Tie-tains”…akin to LEGO). We don’t have an “ambassador” program. …would you ever be interested in checking it out? …as of August last year, it is currently ‘US PATENT PENDING’. If you are interested, I’d LOVE to share and discuss more with you! - Howie

Yes you are right!!! If I had it I would certainly use it for palaeoloxodon in my stop motions! It could, if using the pieces used for the mammoth tusks, be a Columbian/Steppe Mammoth too

Got no problem with the subtheme within city. After all the Lego city line is meant to make kids imagine and build up their cities. Their city could be located in Africa and just away from the city is the reservation. Where the Lego figures help animals. The deep ocean theme and the space theme both are sublines as well and mesh well with city. As for the animal parts. The set price would be bonkers if they used that many pieces as the older version for the animals. So that is a upgrade also the look of the newer ones is better.
@binchickenbricks2373

I can see the appeal, I just think it's unimaginative compared to the older more specific themes, so we end up with more generic builds that have to fit into both categories
@dgray3771

@@binchickenbricks2373 They already upscaled the vehicles to 6 wide from the old 4 wide. That in itself is already a revolution. And with 6 wide the builds can be much more complicated. As for uniformity, there isn't much of that within city. Look at the buildings if they are factories for fire fighting they are bare bone. And the city hall just a while ago has mini size rooms. They opted to enlarge vehicles but size down buildings.

I have done plenty of Lego hunting over the last 5 years but not recorded much of it and now My collection is so huge I cant actually easily manage it. $2 per minifigs is about right, sometimes can be twice as much. I from UK so $2 is more like £1.50, I pay that's or up the $3 per minifig. The best way to get lots of minifigs is to find a giant lot and offer £100.

We were long overdue for updated generic minifig scale Lego animals, and the recent Lego City subtheme(s) has been a trove for new molds. The other elephants from Duplo, Friends, and minifig costumes still have their merits and uses in their own right, but not what system fans wanted when they asked for a new Lego elephant along the lines of the Orient Expeditions elephant mold sets. -I think the OE elephant's parts and design show clear design choices of Lego as a company at that time, where they were trying standardised poseable systems for minifig scaled creature builds. Any "inaccuracies" to a real elephant can be more easily brushed off in my mind due to the more 'toyish' (a strength of the OE elephant in many ways) look that allows me to forgive some of the weirder elements like how the trunk is always doing a snakey curve. -A huge miss on the redesign elephant, I'd say is the lack of a custom poseable tail, that's my only gripe, OE elephant also couldn't angle the trunk to reach below the mouth to show it eating or raise its trunk to trumpet. -On the part about the inconsistencies brought up about Asian and African elephants though: Yes, in general African elephants are known more to be larger than Asian elephants, but there's still lots of variation and overlap between the two depending on factors, both genera of elephants have species/subspecies within known for being quite a bit smaller than the majority. African Forest elephants are by far the smallest species of elephants, while males of either African bush elephants or Asian elephants can be of similar dimensions at full size. -Considering the OE elephant to be an Asian elephant seems consistent with the domed back shape and the dented forehead shape. The City elephant's head is clearly modeled after an African Bush elephant's face, but the body's flat back is generic enough to either represent the domed Asian elephant's back, or the dented African elephant's back. -However the biggest giveaway would be the nails of the City elephant: Asian elephants (and mammoths as well being their closest relative) have 5 nails front, and 4 nails back foot. African elephants (both species) on the other hand have 4 nails front and 3 nails back. The City elephant has 4 nails on all feet (I can't say for what reason, but it's interesting how it sort of matches both while sort of matching neither) So despite some specificity, it's within reason that it's generic enough to be either if they decide to make an Asian elephant head mold. -With that in mind, the OE and City elephants scale alright together if you think of the City ellie a Bush elephant cow or a Forest elephant bull, while the OE elephant is a full grown bull or an extinct giant elephant, depending on what scale you're going for. My Opinion: Both are equally valid and compatible, but the Lego City Mammoth is an abomination. PS. Excuse me for the lengthy comment, just really passionate about Lego and Ellies.

Completely agreed, basically waited my whole childhood for this update haha. Thank you for the info on the nails, I wonder if that was intentional on LEGO's partor not, and yes I think it would go a long way for LEGO to make a separate head mould for the Asian elephant. My understanding was the bornean pygmy elephant was the smallest elephant species, with the adults being just taller than an adult human, I've always thought the Asian varieties of elephant where much smaller than the African, just from what I've encountered at zoos and been told. Thank you for your interest in my video I appreciate the feedback and I hope LEGO continues to make more new animal moulds :)

@yujinjin2505
@yujinjin2505 3 жыл бұрын
@@binchickenbricks2373 I'd say the mould set struck me as unappealing for a few different reasons; -Mostly the disparity between the textured tufts on top and the smooth main body with a different texture below. -The area of attachment for the tusks as well seemed weirdly wide compared to how tall I'd expect the skull to be. The bulging tooth socket areas look like its got perpetually pouting cheeks. -The tusks themselves too seem uncharacteristically long and straight than the more iconic spiraled shape of woolly mammoths' U shaped tusks, the comparative length of the tusks adding to the overall length of the body makes it look more like extinct straight tusked elephants such as Stegodon and Zygolophodon (you can kind of position them to seem closer to the IRL animal, but not by much) -This compounded by how mammoths are iconically taller than they are long (front to back, sans tusks) -The interface between the neck and head seems awkward, and awfully thin and gappy. Worsened by how the body and head pieces taper at the interfaces, making for a bizarre disconnected look. (Less of a problem for the elephants, as elephants have a more revealed hairless neck, as well as the larger ears concealing the interface better) One thing I found interesting is that the Lego mammoth is basically the same size as the new Lego elephant, with the same shoulder height and the mammoth being 1 stud wider than the elephant. Which is in scale, as Woolly Mammoths are known to be of similar or even smaller sizes than most modern elephants. Hope this answered your questions, lovely to hear from a fellow Animal/Lego fan :)
