Helpful information. But what if I'm in a band that has a genre (alternative/post punk) and we do covers and originals? A lot of this information isn't applicable.

I am not a professional musician, but I do play the odd gig here and there at small festivals that I'm working at in a separate capacity. Two close friends asked me if I'd play the music for their wedding and, delighted, I agreed. I am so excited and they aren't asking for anything huge as it is a small ceremony, but I want to make sure everything is sorted easily so I can make it a good quality performance and I've never done anything like this before. I'm 3.05 in to your video and the tip about setting up shelter is already an enormous help. Thank you so much for this video, I am going to make the most of the rest of it now!

couple of tips right back atcha - don't sit down! this is rockanroll, not bach. throw away the music stand - you wouldn't go to a play with actors reading a script, learn the songs!

I agree. I don't like to sit down but I do use an iPad. I agree with you as far as knowing a song by heart. It's good because it frees up energy for spontaneity in your performance which allows you to try things musically as well engaging the crowd more.

I very rarely write out a set list. I prefer to read the room and react accordingly.

Using an iPad, my repertoire is exponentially expanded. It’s a trade off I’m happy to make - especially since I work 60+ hours per week and don’t have all day to memorize every song. I have a great voice and can play songs fluently with the help of an iPad, so that’s what works for me.

One of my best memories....I played a wedding for a Hungarian family (I think). The hook was, they wanted me to M.C. the entire reception. Introductions of the ""New Mr. and Mrs. Macdshgsdfihablehgdsjchbwejkfwqgflkewhfwblifhwbfliwufli!" It took me all day to learn how to pronounce everyone's names. There wasn't a single Bob or Tom in the bunch. So....When I finished the introductions I got a standing ovation! I only do wedding for Smith's and Jones's now! Great video, Thank you!!

This is all super great and helpful stuff. One suggestion though... Separate your VLOG and tips videos. The tips would be more helpful as a laundry list, and you can still use your b-roll from you VLOG with the tips videos. You also end up with more content that way. :-)
