Mountain tree is not Bacteria house - they are made from completely different materials. Mountain tree 1st generation fell apart into wet cardboard whereas BHM media can be broken up and left in a shower forever and it will never break down.

The best products for happy ponding as James says in his video. We support definitely Mountain Tree products the last 4 years and we are very satisfied from the results in our ponds and koi. Every koi hobbyist and not only should give a try on Mountain Tree products.

Thanks for your suggestion. But ceramic products are all fragile, we cannot avoid. If you use with mesh protector and gently maintain them, they will not break easily.

It's really based on your real situation, as long as the bacteria house isn't damaged very badly it's fine to use. The reason we recommend to replace it in 2 years is because the minerals in the bacteria house will run out over time. If you don't mind this, then it is ok to continue using it and still be able to cultivate beneficial bacteria.

It's a good question! MT filter mat can be placed vertically on the floor, and it is recommended to place it in the same direction as the water flow to get more contact surface for bacteria cultivation.
