I just bought the 2020 Grapefruit CD and in actual matter of fact the album and single versions are just swapped around/mis-labelled...which is annoying. That said it's a nice collection. I hope some of the other albums are re-issued on cd.

"Imitation Song" merges ""Imagine" with The Beatles in their last two years of recording, 1967-1969. The Beatles were officially together until 1970, but their last recording together was in August 1969.

The only clarification is that "Imitation Song" is cooler than “Imagine” :))

Thanks for posting this. I was just listening to my CD copy when I thought: "There's something missing here!" Used to have the LP on vinyl, of course. It's a typically bittersweet Neil Innes composition, the jaunty music set against lyrics telling a tragic tale. (Is the rest of the album alright, do you know..?)

Neil Innes must have been able to read the future , I mean how else could he have made a record that sounded so much like Oasis before they ever made their record ?😲

And 'Slaves of Freedom'; 'Bold, Brave Sir Robin', and many other delights of wit humor and tune. Neil's talent greatly exceeded his fame. Everyone's loss.

Fell in love with this song as soon as my ears admitted it to my cerebral cortex monitored it. I have to admit this was in part a totally selfish perspective, as my intention, devotion and perhaps laziness was to reproduce. The song is perfection personified in my world.....

This song has a strange curiosity John Lennon (the Beatle he parodied during the Rutles era) composed a song of the same name in 1974, however, the song was only released in 1985 In other words, Innes got so good at parodying the Beatles, that he did it in a way that even he didn't notice

I used to love Neil Innes work but I don't think I ever realised how truly brilliant he was , I was just a little too young to have seen The Bonzo Dog Doodah Band live and it's thanks to everyone's work putting the material up for people to be able to watch and listen to that keeps the memories alive . Thank you all .

Neil Innes was a singer songwriter on a par with John Lennon, or any other of the greats. I sing his praises, whenever I can, and I feel that more of the world needs to hear his music.

Awesome theme tune for The Innes Book Of Records, it's like some kind of music from a bygone age, an odd but pleasing sound. It's certainly not a piece of music you would forget after hearing it.

Neil never cared for fame, and yet as a songwriter of very catchy music, he was awesome, if he went mainstream he would be up there along with the best songwriters on the planet. I enjoyed the Bonzos, but Innes had talent away beond that. I loved The Innes Book Of Records. Down That Road was great. RIP Neil.
