Hey Liz is you are still researching the stories with Baba Yaga, give "The Feather of Finist the Falcon" a try. It does resemble your twist on this story with a female protagonist who goes on a quest to save her beloved.

I think the 2012 animated Snow Queen film comes alot closer to being an animated snow queen than the Frozen does. They did take some liberties of course, but you can see alot of references to the original story. The movie does have some wierd sequals but the first one is pretty good.

To be fair, it is heterosexual and as a trans person I don’t actually think that it’s trans either. People are assigned a gender at birth and being trans is a diversion from the gender you were assigned. Sex is completely separate. For example, I am an intersex transmasculine person, my biological sex traits aren’t easily categorized as male or female, but I was assigned female at birth. I was socialized as a girl. My actual gender is a masculine aligned genderqueer person, but I am still approximately FTM because gender and sex are different. I have a hard time calling the characters cis, particularly the masculine one, but I wouldn’t consider them trans as they both identify as the gender they were assigned at birth.
@Cosbrarian4 күн бұрын
Thats an interesting perspective and I appreciate your sharing it! I definitely see the case for them being cis!

When I was around 7-9 years old, my 20-something uncle and his buddy bought me stuffed animals for my birthday. I'm pretty sure they were tipsy at Toys'R'Us, because they thought a crocodile and a bison made for awesome gifts for me. I didn't learn that the eyes and teeth of the crocodile glowed in the dark until they were staring at me in the night. Yes, there was screaming and moving of the crocodile so I couldn't see it from the bed.

I once had a nightmare about a rubber hippo I owned. It wasn't scary after I woke up. I also used to be scared of the hippo from the Reading Mansion PC game, and this isn't a toy, but I once had a nightmare (around Christmastime!) where a Snuffleupagus-looking thing came at me while "We Three Kings" played in the background (it wasn't even attacking, just walking toward me, but I was terrified of that thing for a looong time).

How do you feel about elephants?
@SariaSchala4 күн бұрын
@@Cosbrarian I actually love elephants and have a very beloved plush one! I don't know where that fear came from lol, I don't find Snuffleupagus or that nightmare thing that looked like him that scary anymore either (and I have NO idea why "We Three Kings" was scary, perhaps it's because one of the ones I grew up with was the Roches and it has a haunting sounding second verse? I still love that version and loved it even when I was having these fears)

I threw it in my closet and never saw it again but heard it for like a week afterwards. You better believe I told my kids hell no when for some reason people decided it was a good idea to bring furbies back and they asked for them.

I love all your videos but this one reminded me how much I love fashion, fairytales and illustration. It made me want to take classes and learn to improve as an artist, storyteller and sewist so that one day I could create my own version of the 12 dancing princesses. It brought back my childhood obsession with picture books and reminded me that while I have improved greatly over the years I’ve got quite a ways to go and that I’ll definitely need to put in plenty of work to achieve that particular childhood goal.

So fun fact! Ruth Sanderson taught at the children's illustration MFA program at my college, and it was because of her position there that I FINALLY got my hands on her copy of the 12 Dancing Princesses (my favorite fairytale), which I had been tracking for years at that point. She also signed a poster for me, though it got a little damaged in dorm life. It's fun that you mention Hungarian fairy tales -- there's a great series here on KZbin called "Hungarian Folk Tales" and they have a version where the princesses dance on blades

When I first watched this I couldn't stand Marie when she developed her craving for radishes. I felt she acted like a spoiled brat towards her husband saying she wouldn't have anything to do with him until he got her the radish when he tried to kiss her and basically bullying him into going back by saying things like her mother was right about him although in the beginning it was implied the witch caused Marie to crave radishes in the first place to lure the couple into her garden so she could make the deal to take their baby so she probably had the excuse of being under a spell but in most of the versions of Rapunzel I've watched I found the Rapunzel's mother character extremely whiny saying she'll die if she doesn't get her cravings aren't given into.

Trivia, the role of the Stepmother was originally slated to be played by Hollywood legend Anne Bancroft, but regretfully Mrs. Mel Brooks contracted mono prior to the shooting schedule. Joan Collins, whose star began to climb after saving the primetime soap DYNASTY in its second season, was tapped to play the role, and graciously accepted. And the rest is as we know it, is faerie tale history 🤎
@erikandrus438719 күн бұрын
First of all, I like you. Mainly because you don't "act" all "triggered" over a goofy radish puppet like some of these other ardent video bloggers. I was nine when I started watching "Faerie Tale Theatre", on Betamax, wayyyyyy before the days of binging. I literally got fed these episodes piece meal, and honestly there was something about having the episode for a day or two, watching it one hundred times before it had to be returned, and the reset button was pushed for the next chance encounter with another CBS FOX edition in any random video store or library. What was captivating about RAPUNZEL (it was the sixth episode I ever saw), was indeed the art direction based on Gustav Klimt's style. From the moment I saw the lively video cover to the entirety of the presentation, my favorite scene is the witch Gena Rowlands spying on Claude (Jeff Bridges); those eerie eyes stalking his every movement in her garden from behind the veiled mask of a scarecrow. The only thing missing from the original release was the innuendo between the parents - it does nothing for me. No trivia on this end, though, when you brought to light the witch and her look, it's dawned on me, how Gena Rowlands resembles Piper Laurie from "Carrie"... I wonder, was the eponymous "anti-heroine" of that movie and Duvall's friend from "3 Women" Sissy Spacek ever a possibility to play the lonely maiden in the tower? ❤
