I am applying to law school and Georgia state is my top choice. Do you have any new student advice geared towards Georgia State??
@GiovannaChelli Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, I would say the general pieces of advice for succeeding in 1L all apply. I would just recommend admin stuff like verifications, financial aid, immunizations, etc. being completed as soon as possible as most of those documents are processed by the actual GSU offices

Ms. Chelli aka Little Brown Sister... 1. Never Be Afraid to Bet On Yourself at ALL-Times(You Made It This Far)! 2. Never Let Cost Get In The Way Of Financing Your Dreams or Goals(Student Loans are Down Payments On Your Dreams). BTW, How do you EAT a Whale? One Bit At A Time!!! 3. Dream's and Goal's are accomplished 1 Day at a Time, so YOU shouldn't worry about your next steps, just put faith in your steps and the plan WILL COME. I heard you praising GOD, so test your Faith and never turn YOURSELF DOWN, let THEM(Whom Ever that Maybe In Your Life at this time) turn you down and watch YOU Go! Good Luck and Make it Happen Little Brown Sister aka L1 Chelli!

LSAC GPA is the one to factor. Its a little stricter. But yeah good law schools are usually around 3.6+.

If you can study very hard on the LSAT and be above your schools median…I think that you can be admitted because of that and despite your GPA. Don’t be discouraged.

Congratulations! Whether you decide to or not, you should consider the transfer path! You will need to perform really well your first year, however depending on the jump in ranking it is worth the cost. I was a transfer student and I wish someone told me how to do well 1L much sooner. In my case, I transferred from a school much lower rank than GSU to Emory. I also had a significantly lower LSAT and GPA than you did. You can totally do it if you wanted.

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you!

Is there a limit to how much you can take out overall or only within a year ? It would be essential to know if you can’t take out any more loans the following year because you have too many loans.
@GiovannaChelli2 жыл бұрын
So it’s a little complicated. There’s a set limit for the total amount of federal subsidized & unsubsidized loans you can borrow in a lifetime, I believe it’s around $138,000. So this does include any loan debt from undergrad. If you hit that max once you reach grad school (in this case law school), you can borrow federal GRAD Plus Loans up to the amount of cost of attendance minus any other aid such as scholarships. However, GRAD Plus loans require a credit check w/ higher interests.
@GiovannaChelli2 жыл бұрын
Unsubsidized loans are applied first per year (max $20,500). Any additional costs remaining can be covered by a grad plus loan (max COA minus scholarships).
@chelled87732 жыл бұрын
Have you ever heard of anyone that didn't finish law school because they couldn't afford it? Wow, this kind of changed my views on what school to attend. How much do you think we need a year as a law student? 🤣 it is expensive everywhere 😩
@GiovannaChelli2 жыл бұрын
@@chelled8773 Law school is very expensive unfortunately, however I view it as an investment. Don’t allow costs to deter you from still applying & attending. It’s common for most students to resort to loans to fund their higher education if they have no other means (isn’t great but it gets it done). Aiming for institutional and outside scholarships first is always best. Also consider the type of law you’ll like to practice, salary, etc. if your concerned about loan repayment. Do your research, consider factors important to you, & go from there!
