Groovy Edd Kalehoff stuff here. Love the saxophone. The Dawson reboot was unfairly cancelled due to the OJ Trial pre-empting it....could've lasted until 1999 when Louie Anderson took over.

Whoever was playing harmonica was no joke especially at 1:40 had that damn thing wailing!! As a kid, I used to crank the TV and hope that they would play the theme out before fading to commercials. Lol

This is cool; really love the upload! ❤️ I know I’m a strong critic of this version of Pyramid (unnecessarily harsh judging, seizure-inducing set, clueless celebrities, broken tournament format, etc.), but it’s become a guilty pleasure of mine. Donny Osmond wasn’t a bad host at all. I also like the show’s appearance on FRIENDS (Paper! Snow! A ghost!) It was also nice to see Dick Clark make a couple of appearances. I think they also dropped confetti for when someone won the tournament, did they?

Didn't the 70s and 80s version have very harsh judging as well?

The 70s version was a bit less strict, until the channel hop to ABC. The 80s version really started to crack down on prepositions and other clues that they felt “didn’t fit the subject”. An example, they didn’t like “A cast leg” for “Things that are Supported” because “there was no such thing”. Regardless, it’s nothing compared to the stuff that happened on Donnymid. The subjects were even harder and the judges wanted the subjects to be said as they were instead of just the essence. For example, if the subject was “Fattening Foods”, it had to be said exactly like that or they wouldn’t move on. Given the fact that there were no returning champions and the tournament was brutally difficult, this might have been on purpose.
