I added a $45 fake carbon fiber center console from T moo and black round shift knob with yellow momo label from t moo or Ali b for maybe $20. Also old school silver alpine cd player with blue lighting. Really changes the interior up. Then you can always have an upholstry shop cover other plastics in leather. I haven't done that though I'm happy with the changes in the interior I already have. The first year of C5 was actually 1997. I have one so I should know lol.

It’s easy to improve the interior, I swapped out all leather for suede, double din nav unit with apple caplay, custom titanium shiftknob, carbon/suede steering wheel. Also ripped out all of the Bose system and swapped it for Jl speakers with 2 amps and a 10in. Can’t have a retro 90s car without a sound system lol

Realize the 2002 interior you are talking about really was designed in 1992. I recommend the book all corvettes are red and learn about the really down and dirty making of the c5

I agree👍I just started reading that book.

To me that makes it even better. It's personal opinion though some people don't like older cars like that and that's fine. I just hate when they compare them to new like its a fair fight. Comparing to something in the 90's to 00's then that would make more sense.

01-02 are the best years to buy too... I can't find those years for sale here in Puerto Rico so looking at a 2000

I've heard that too. Most issues sorted out, and no extra issues from the new changes in the later years. Hopefully one pops up for you!

Mine probably isn't too far away from needing it. Doesn't wobble yet but I think I might get a summit racing one before it is an issue.

Good review, and I appreciate the heads-up on those LED headlights. I've only had my 2003 for a few months but it's been a real joy to drive. There's no substitute for a great American V8 in a light car with a manual transmission. Driving a C5 is a visceral experience.
@rustoutracing3 ай бұрын
Don't get me wrong the lights are going to be great (still haven't finished installing them), but it's frustrating paying that much for a product that seems like it cut corners or is just unfinished. C5 is such a great platform, right when the corvette came into modern times but without over doing it. Still gets compliments too lol

@rustoutracing Жыл бұрын
Harmonic balancer is 100% on the list to do. I was looking at the kit to key it to the crank as well but not sure if I've got the tools to do it safely but we'll figure it out one day soon.

@@rustoutracing They have pinning kits for the LS1. Comes with a jig that mounts on the shaft, a drill bit and pins. In case you ever want to put on a supercharger.
@peterb4143 Жыл бұрын
@@rustoutracing I bought a nice power bond race balancer with a pin kit off Amazon to do because it was wobbling but eventually did it when I lost a lifter and had to rebuild the motor in my driveway (long story). The pinning is super easy and not as intimidating as I thought. All you need is a good drill and some brake clean really to get all the metal shavings out. Air compressor doesn’t hurt either. Used the arp bolt as well, runs like a champ now.

@@rustoutracing I bought my '02 Z06 w/47k almost 7yrs ago: it's about to turn 60k, and like you, I brought everything up to snuff, including, I didn't want to waste a perfectly good motor in the window actuator so I was able to repair it with just the simple aluminum adjuster used on a bicycle handbrake that facilitates the cable, and the headlight by merely spinning the rubber dampener 90° ¿`_

I bought mine almost 2 years ago now. I paid 14,500 for a 2002 convertible manual. Done a few maintenance things. Haven't put more than 1000 miles on it in the last year. Been on my motorcycle.

I couldn't stand looking at it and not driving it 😆 I drive it every chance I get and every day to work! But to each their own!
@cs1375 Жыл бұрын
@Rust Addict it's not that I don't like driving it. It's just a convertible and all convertible leak to a degree. Plus water spots. Rather have it on my motorcycle. Also I filled with premium last time and it cost 7.70 for 2 and a half weeks.

I think the C5's design is holding up well. Damn well!!!! I'd take a C5 is a heartbeat. But personally I think the C4's design isn't aging well AT ALL.

I agree. I think c4 looks great on the outside but it still screams 80s and early 90s. Interior is just straight 80s.
