I’m a Process Operator, I don’t have a degree, it’s been all on the job training. I have two years experience now, which I would argue is better than a degree. I work 4 days on, 4 days off (rotating 12 hour shifts) and make $32.50/hour (with 4 hours OT per day). It’s a great job, it has its frustrating moments, but it’s a great career path for sure.

I have an interview for oxy chem on Tuesday. Starting pay is around 32$ and some change. Surely I don't need a degree to get an opportunity. I do have 4 years of chemical loading experience. Hopefully I can get the job.

Know what you're getting into when becoming a Pharmacy Tech in any Texas Medical Center area hospital. Please search on Google for strategies for working with difficult co-workers. If you work at any Houston Medical Center hospital, there will usually be a certain number of pharmacy techs that are toxic. Think insensitive, shaming, humiliation critical, & disrespectful. This on top of caffeinated nurses / surgery support that spout frustration at you for things out of your control. This on top of work policies that are changed on an almost quarterly basis by pharmacy management. This on top of terrible traffic coming & leaving from work. The turnover in pharmacy techs in any Texas Medical Center area hospital isn't centered on the pay. It's the combined weight of stresses on the pharmacy tech that leads to them leaving. I found a government acknowledgement of the workplace challenges: Disrespectful Behavior in Health System Pharmacy Practice: Consequences & Next Steps Andrew T. Ruplin & Bryan C. McCarthy.
