I find myself weeping whilst watching a man dressed like a giant bird sing a song originally performed by a frog at a man's Memorial Service and think that it's completely normal.

Boy this must’ve been just heartbreaking for Big Bird to do. I don’t blame him for almost losing it when performing one of Kermit/Jim Henson’s best songs.

You know at first one might think Caroll was probably acting by making Big Bird's voice quiver and crack, but when you really listen to it, its so evident that Caroll is truly trying his hardest not to break down.

60 years old and the muppets are still in my life. Kermit has always had pride of place in our living room. We dress him up up as Santa every Christmas. I dust him once a week.

This skit should've been the final episode of Sesame Street on my opinion because instead of the show moving forward and airing lots of seasons. I know they want to keep going with the franchise so children could get attention & I know their trying to act like Saturday Night Live for show bus and fame. But to me it's like a cash grab from the looks of it. Right now I'm thinking since Sesame Street turned well instead of educating the children towards letters, numbers, feelings, emotions, vocabulary, etc there topic is now just focusing on politics and other strange slurs in the show which I think should be banned. Since Sesame Street has been airing for like 52 Seasons I think since Carroll Spinney & Jim Henson has passed on to their next lives they are probably rolling in there graves of what has happened with Sesame Street since it's not doing so well for me, most parents, and regular fans out there. Either way if they did cancelled Sesame Street then they would've made each complete season of Sesame Street with like thousands of discs instead of just top two episodes on each disc and season which is actually goddamn incomplete or at least try to like how they treated so well with Mr. Roger's Neighborhood by adding tons of old episodes on PBS kids. Sesame Street should've done the same respect instead of adding their bull-crap 25 minute new episodes of Sesame Street. & that is my long comment on this video. R.I.P. Carroll Spinney & Jim Henson. I watch this vid a dozen times every year. Im an old man, and it makes cry every time! I remember this, I remember watching. "Thank you Kermit" is when I break down. Like lose my breath crying, ugly like.

It could be tough work to explain how poignant this moment was. Imagine watching this in a museum 200 years from now where someone shows up in a giant bird costume to a musical memorial service and trying to figure out why it was so serious to so many people. But I remember watching this on TV with my family and how this was an important event in American households. I remember the gravity of news reporters sharing the news of Jim Henson's death and the shared grief that we felt. I've met people in their 20s who have Kermit tattoos and endlessly talk about Muppet facts, and it makes me feel so happy and proud to know that it's still reaching new generations. It might be difficult to convey to future generations how important this was, but we can try. For something that was supposed to appeal to children and their parents in a particular moment, the artistry of amazing storytelling and character always seems to shine through and find new fans. I consider the Muppet works as part of the best of American literature. I will always miss you, Jim Henson, and I miss you, Caroll Spinney.

When I was a kid, I LOVED Jim Henson. When I heard he died, I cried. Weird how you can feel such a connection to someone you never met.

First Jim Henson, then Caroll Spinney. Ever since I had found out that Caroll Spinney had passed away, I've often wondered why Sesame Workshop didn't find someone else to voice as Big Bird whose voice sounds similar to his. Having Matt Vogel wear the the Big Bird costume is okay, but I would've preferred having someone else voice as Big Bird who can pull it off the same way Caroll Spinney did.
