Wear the helmet. It costs nothing, and might be a big deal. Also, you have decades of hockey experience giving you muscle memory of toe-pushing and leaning too far forward. That's why you risk the toe of the blade digging in. Focus on pushing through the heels, even when at top speed. The result will be that you will be able to skate faster for longer. But we old dogs have a heard time unlearning old tricks! :)

The track is about 120m around but I was also trying to get my beats per minute down below 100. I had a good 15 minutes of skating before making the video.

I have a Giant Escape 2016. i set my seat post higher than that but my measurements are identical to you. Just high enough so my hips don't rock when peddling. Had to raise the front stem too for comfort. What determines a "medium"frame?

Part of his secret is that he is skating a consistently tight track, compared to the others. It helps that he is a bit smaller than the rest, too.

Great public session. Sometimes a group of 30 kids shows up. Sometimes only 5 figure skaters and a hockey player. Been doing this public session for over ten years all alone.
