Levenshtein Distance is an excellent idea for name searching. I should've thought to try that myself. It's right up my alley! If nothing else it will indicate some of the names were probably floating around in the zeitgeist or milieu; same as the Napoleon and Late War books you've identified. This is a good start to some interesting work. I hope you're still building it out.

I was sexually molested by a "caring bishop", after I was abandoned by horrific custodians that abused and unspeakably terrorized me for 14 yrs. The Bishop prayed on me.. He was already a predator. Unfortunately for me, this was something I was used to since a very young boy.. More unfortunately for me, I was the PERFECT VICTIM. WORSE YET, I GENUINELY BELIEVED THE LIES TAUGHT BY MISSIONARIES , WHILE I WAS BEING SEXUALLY ABUSED BY THIS BISHOP. TIP OF THE ICEBERG. THESE ARE MURDERING, TREASONOUS, CRIMINALS. ... I struggled with my sexuality a big part of my life and psychological trauma, anxiety, that I was so worthless and unworthy of a woman's love.. tip of the iceberg.. Turns out, I'm genuinely heterosexual. But, they destroyed me. As a result, essentially, I'm to old, poor, and traumatized by them to ever meet a woman and fulfill my desires of having a family.

My brother converted after my ex introduced him to his wife. My ex tried to get me to convert and I turned her down. My brother was vulnerable and felt like nobody cared about him. He felt like we pushed him to them. He credits her and her family (all LDS) for making him the man he is. My parents felt like they were slapped in the face. His wife dictates everything along with her mother. Last year my first niece was born. My brother, his wife and my niece live 10 miles from me and I only see them at major events. My parents and I are ostracized. My uncle and grandmother aren’t because they condone the way they’ve treated us and hold purse strings. My parents live with me because my dads health is deteriorating and for the last few years I’ve had to watch my mother cry her eyes out because her son doesn’t like confrontation and won’t take up for us. I honestly blame myself for all of it but I don’t know what to do.

I cannot freaking believe that the one woman's grandson would speak to her in such a disrespectful manner in an email to her!! She is entitled to believe whatever she wishes. He had ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to treat his GRANDMOTHER with such disrespectful!! Shame on that boy!! If he had been my grandson, not only would i have told his parents. But i would have written back to him to tell him what an ungrateful, rude, disgusting human being he is. I would not have cared, in the moment, that he was my grandson. I would have called him out for the piece of human garbage that he is. He is past the age of accountability at 12 years old. He knew exactly what he was doing and saying. He should have been held accountable for what he said.

My brother had to stand outside his own sons wedding because he is not LDS. His LDS wife had an affair with someone in the church and got pregnant by not my brother. But, she is still righteous because she is mormon. Shame on them and their corrupt beliefs!!

I would hope people remember luke 9:49-50 "those who aren't against me are for me " jesus tells off his apostles for not being tolerant of other people who were doing similar things to them that weren't part of their group. I have a personal testimony of it (and the nemenhah records). However, the church isn't perfect, I don't follow individuals. I only joined the church because of a personal spiritual experience, not for any other reason. I have always thought outside the square so I don't follow blindly. I only do what I'm instructed by God (and willing to do if I want). I respect that you have different experiences. I've had spiritual experiences since I was 18 months old. They have been various in subject matter. I can't transfer this to anyone. I can only say and hope people find and have their own experiences.

I left the [LDS] church in 1991. I just couldn’t accept the wholesomeness of Joseph Smith and the BoM any longer. Living through the whole Salamander Letter scandal while living in Utah was a huge ah-ha moment. Plus, Mormons aren’t very Christian…at least they weren’t back then. I have been so much happier and closer to Jesus since leaving the LDS church and moving out of Utah.

Lack of truth. People fall out of the church for the same reason they fall out of bed, not in far enough. People need to do their homework. God has said Ask and you shall receive. God is no respector of persons. Obey and you are blessed, disobey and you are in Satan's power. Apostates leave the church but cannot leave the church alone. Jesus's worst enemies were his friends.

Nothing is perfect on earth. Not even one man. I believe in a Prophet, someone called by God to communicate with His people and lead them in the way God says. Man can become corrupt but God is still God. Don't blame God. God is Love always. The man failed but not God.
@Dollygirl662 ай бұрын
You are also corrupt so dont make yourself look righteous. If you believ in a prophet you are Mornon. You sre as corrupt as any other man. God loves us as messed up as we are. It js not your right to judge what is right and what isnt.

I believe that this is a christian church ,no matter how imperfect it is or some members might be, i believe to be truth because i red the book of mormon twice and the bible as well. What it teaches though is amazing even if people like in this video laugh. Joseph smith defended that book with his own body and got so many beatens form evil people however there is so many real cults out there and God the eternal father knows that. They are doing evil but why people dont persecute those evil cults but a christ religion? Any thoughts , it evil to even destroyed somebody's faith. Read the bible in apocalipse where it says that jesus himself will be bringing an eternal gospel that noone will remove from panet earth.....see it for yourself and meditate on it. Apocalipse 12.. the bible also teaches how we have to folllow jesus christ.. i just wonder you guys could think that way. Jesus says in the bible that he will be visiting other people he traveled everywhere in his journey. And i dont believe that only the bible which was written in eastern continent is truth. Also the native people who live in the americas continent have to have prophets as well who wrote amazing books in different times. Awesome. Confirming that there is a God and a belived son jesus and the book of mormon no matter how much people critize its divine porpose its to bring people closer to jesus because it testifies of Jesus christ.. it an amazing book

I was never Mormon but I'm hearing things in this lecture that I didn't know. Joseph Smith is worse than I thought. He lied and plagiarized like it was running out of style. AND he was a serial sexual predator. Its so sad that people are staking their souls on the LDS Church when its built on such a dishonest foundation. I pray more people will come to know Biblical-Christianity and put their faith in Jesus as he really is.

Not to sound harsh, but to use the phrase people die over a book people blow themselves up for 72 virgins. That doesn’t make it true.

John 1:1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God; and the Word was God. You will find the true Jesus Christ in the Holy Bible. The volume of the book is about Him (Proverbs 8).

Proverbs 30:5-6, 5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Joseph Smith fails God’s prophet test in Deuteronomy 13:1-5, 18:20-22. He prophecies many things that did not come true. All God’s true prophets are always 100% accurate.

You miss the point of the book. You identify similarities between the Book of Mormon and other contemporaneous works. So what. The point of the book is consider the merit of the book’s interpretation of the gospel of Christ. You have not done this.

The matter of what constitutes ethical or righteous behavior is really a distinct topic from whether the Mormon Church is true. Most of the world, in terms of percentage, believes there is a problem with homosexuality. They do not believe, on the basis of one man's affirmations, that Joseph Smith was a prophet and received a special revelation of supposedly ancient North American history and the capacity to translate something no longer, perhaps never, even extant and that all his successors in office also are the mouthpieces of God.
@jamesstrawn60878 ай бұрын
It is not just that the KJV mistranslations were copied but that the KJV style was (attempted to be) copied at a time when it was long since not used. It was a text that had become a kind of sacred language used in church but nowhere else & this persisted all the way to the 1960s. There is a very good reason the KJV uses phrases like "it came to pass" and "lo" and "behold" that involve the underlying Greek and Hebrew texts. They are not thrown in just for style and emphasis.

After learning more about church history and using my own observations it is hard to deny that something is seriously wrong about the church. To continue believing in something after you know it is not true is an affront to God. There is no unrighteousness in God. I believe the church betrayed my trust. Sadly, I am still unhappy about the 60 Minutes reporting of the church’s response to the handling of the “widows mite”.
