Who knows about NZ in the world no one does, most think it’s in Australia, like Wales most think it’s in England .

Alot of this classic footage reveals that many players like BG Williams was actually prone to alot of indiscipline. Foot tripping, head high tackles etc.

Wales beat New Zealand twice in the 1970's. And, twice Wales were robbed. Corrupt!
@allandavis82019 ай бұрын
That was a blatant dive and the referee must have been blind not to see that, a very very poor decision. It is a pity that the Welsh 🏴 team of today 16/03/24, didn’t and don’t play the kind of expansive game that they played so beautifully in the decades prior to the introduction of all the, all most, scientific approaches to everything, from sleep patterns to the optimal weight for every player, it has improved the game in some ways and in others it hasn’t, players seem to just operate from a playlist and not by intuitive and freedom to display their skills.

I don't care what anyone says, Rugby was so much better back then than the modern game. Hookers hooked to begin with, players were relatively normal in size compared with the monsters of today and backs ran the ball, played mis-moves and often ran penalties. I love Rugby but the modern game leaves me cold I'm afraid.

Was it only Haden? Others may disagree, but it looks to me as if Oliver was also trying to con the ref. In that case the whole sorry business seems to have been orchestrated, not simply an aberration by one player... (And maybe I should say I'm English and speaking as a neutral).
@richardevans56011 ай бұрын
Clearly the ref, Roger Quittendon, was corrupt. Haden dived, that is also clear, no one viewing the video could claim otherwise. Why would he dive unless it was clear RQ would give a pen? The question is what did Quittendon take for fixing the match?

And look at few of the other scores since 1969 1969 19-0, 33-12, 1987 47-9, 1988 52-3, 54-9, plus in 1987 Buck Shelford KO’s a Welshman, the welshman comes too and get sent off. It is hard to believe that Wales once had a 3 to 1 winning ratio over New Zealand

As a teenager back in 78 I watched this game live on tv in NZ. Couldn't figure out at the time what Haden was doing but replays over the years confirms it was pretty low trying to draw a penalty even though the Ref penalised another Welsh player.

clear evidence of cheating, although they probably called it "Gamesmanship", or some other metaphor for cheating. Why, oh why do even the best players resort to this sort of dishonest behaviour? Until I watched this, I was under the (mistaken)impression that cheating in the modern game had spilled over from professional Soccer. But it seems that even the best will cheat when it suits. What satisfaction can they gain from "winning" in this fashion? How disappointing!

AT 3:06, JJ Williams gets penalized by Roger Quinttenton for not releasing. Yet, he did place the ball back and was held in the tackle on the ground by Graham Mourie. Really, that penalty could have gone Wales way for Graham not releasing the tackled player and rolling away, and ball was released to #6 of Wales actually. Mourie caused the breakdown of play and would definitely be penalized under today's laws.
