I love this song

I miss John Denver

What a brilliant composer he was with a terrific high tenor voice. Beautiful song. I felt both peacefulness and anger at the same time listening to this. Where is this in popular music today? Country does it, of course, but why do record companies not support it in pop contemporary? I don't think it's all audience driven. Most of what I hear on the radio or see on the charts is straight up nasty or mindless party music.

I think this song describes a tumultuous relationship where perhaps there was even physical violence (reference to "taking your blood" and "bodies being at war but I wanted peace" ). Yet, she says she loves him like a king, madman, wolf and "like a man which I am not." Therefore, she loves him passionately, without reason or thought, even beyond herself (like a man). She loves him desperately, inexplicably, despite it being a tumultuous relationship. It's a very intense song. Yet if you've ever really passionately loved someone, that is how it feels: inexplicable, beyond yourself, primitive (like a wolf), and encompassing the qualities of a man even though you are a woman. Beautiful song.
