Always thought this was one of the best jams they did.

The BEST version of Hard to Handle! (the night before is great also) I had this tape in the early 90's and I have missed it ever since. Many people claim that the version from the Hollywood Palladium (8/6/ 71) is better, but I disagree. (although that HTH is really Effing good) However, Pigpen forgets a lot of words in the Hollywood version and doesn't sound nearly as good as he does here. Plus, 2/29/71 is a much better recording - the Hollywood show has an excessive amount of crowd noise - hooting and hollerin'. Plus I like Jerry's solo in this one better because the interplay between Jerry and Phil is the stuff of legends! They hit that crescendo and deliver the goods at the end. Full-Tilt Boogie Woogie People!!!!

What I love so much about the Dead is when they start to jam and you can just tell that they get into the groove and hit their stride. They're all just feeding off each other and can just take you somewhere magical. Miss this so bad, cause in one entire show they could have you smiling from ear to ear then might make you shed a tear. Always will be "GRATEFUL" that I was blessed to see them as many times as I did. Feel like some young people will never truly appreciate the greatness. I can remember leaving some shows just looking at my friends and being like "WOW" how incredible was that!!!!
