I was at this show and my mind is blown that you have this video and I can see it now! Thanks for sharing! I remember how it felt to be surrounded by the sound of the song "God" and the energy of it in the room. It was amazing, so I'm glad that is one that got included.

I would have preferred Prine get more attention in his early career and perhaps take early retirement for his last twenty years but that's just thinking about his legacy, Why is it old prizefighters don't know when to quit the ring

This guy is totally over rated musician. He’s just not that good. More famous for being a hopeless junkie.
@jamesgoudreau19402 ай бұрын
I don't know about that, the guy plays multiple styles including country, rock and folk to just name a few and has been playing for a long, long time. His struggles with drugs aren't really germane to whether he is overrated or his level of talent.
@TheNaturalust2 ай бұрын
@@jamesgoudreau1940 I never said his playing skills or talent had anything to do with his addictions. I said it was what he is famous for. I thought it was articulated well and I stand by my assertions, all of them.
@jamesgoudreau19402 ай бұрын
@@TheNaturalust You are not on trial here, brother. No need to be defensive just a little back and forth. Overrated is an overused and poorly defined metric. You explained neither the overated point nor your opinion that he isn't that good. Saying he isn't good is different than saying his music is not to your taste. So, no you really did not articulate your opinions at all and added the point of drug addiction like it supported your previous statements. If you had instead put a reason why you felt he is overrated and by whom and why you feel he isn't that good before adding a point about addiction I would more readily agree with you. I say all this to point out you are both reading too much and yet at the same time not enough into my comment above.
@TheNaturalust2 ай бұрын
@@jamesgoudreau1940 well let me be clear here then. His playing is mediocre and his voice not very compelling. Overall an overrated mediocre artist. Best known for his struggles with serious heroin addiction. I am a huge fan of the styles he likes to play, it has been my profession for 3 decades. He’s just not very good at performing, imo. A few decent songs he’s written that would be much better served with someone else performing them. Check out Tyler Childers show from the 2023 tour. He writes and performs his songs so well you can hardly find a song that isn’t fantastic. That is the standard for touring singer/songwriters. Steve Earl is just not in the same league and he’s had plenty more time to practice. Even super simple songwriters but with no trace of being disingenuous like Aaron Lewis are heads and shoulders above Earl. It’s about so many admittedly subjective factors that make an artist truly great. I’ve given Steve Earl plenty of chances to truly move me and he just hasn’t. Music is my life, I am a touring musician, a hired gun who plays many instruments and sings harmony. I actually believe I could add some elements that are missing from Steve’s shows. Truly elevate his vocals and songs with sympathetic instrumentation. Perhaps dobro or mandolin on some songs, guitar on others to elevate his music to a level closer to what many of us discerning musicians consider top shelf. Alone he doesn’t seem to be able to get there. Hope that post is more easily understandable and answers your questions more clearly than just calling him over rated. 😎

@@TheNaturalust Granted that elements could be added to elevate his music to another level, which he does when touring with a band. This is a solo acoustic tour titled "Alone Again". Personally, I enjoyed it very much.
