i read a national geographic that suggested that learning to walk bipedally could've led to everything from language and higher order thinking. the ability to use your arms freely would've led to increasingly complex hunting methods as well as better tools which cascades all the way down to everything humans do to battle nature and the elements. the human spine was clearly not designed to be upright but it's such a beneficial way to use it that back problems are a natural compromise
