To my ears the first piano voice he played sounds really bad. I own the Yamaha CP88 and it sounds gorgeous. To me Yamaha outshines Roland every time with the piano voices. However Roland to me does an excellent job with realistic production synth voices. In fairness the CP88 is in the higher end category. It could be what he’s playing it through or just bad acoustics.

I’m a bit confused… If I understand your video, you’d already pre-recorded multiple tracks that you transferred into the DP as a 2-track, even though the DP *recognized* the individual multiple tracks, right? I was hoping that you’d have shown how to record various instruments using the multiple input sources on the unit.

Hello, just caught your question/comment - first, I tried to keep this video to only covering just the basics so folks could better understand how to use the Tascam overall. The only track that I recorded was the first two tracks (1 and 2) using the Roland. Those were not pre-recorded but rather sequenced on the Roland and then I played and recorded them into the Tascam using only the first two tracks - now, If I read your question right, you'd like to see how I mix several tracks into the final mix, correct? I only use a few sources since I don't have drums or bass etc. (I use mostly keyboards with a few vocals and guitar occasionally) In that case, I could put a second video out showing how I mix several tracks into one mix - Thanks!

Dave, your suggestion to simply send the stuff on my old sound card right to my new DP-25...worked PERFECTLY! Again, I thank you! I just recorded a cover of Cream's "Crossroads". I used a Bass & Drum backing track and did the guitar and vocals. I hooked it up, sent it to my computer, and everything sounded great. I unplugged it and shut it down for the night all happy with myself. The next day, I go in and try to play it. I hit "Crossroads"....and nothing. I tried everything and it just won't play. Did I miss a step here? I'll try it over again. Thanks again Dave!

Hi Dave, I used a Tascam DP03SD for 10 yrs. It was great and I got some great songs recorded on it...I never used any of the "mastering" tools on it. I just didn't. But my new DP-24sd is a different story and the results I've gotten are simply MIND-blowing. I have a question. Is there any way I can transfer music from the DP-03sd sound cards onto the DP-24SD? I tried listening to one of my old sound cards in the new player and got nothing. Is there anything I can do? Thanks again Dave!

Thank you for the video, I am really new with the Fantom and I am struggling to figure out how to setup all sounds in order to play with my band.. what is best practice to do that? I cannot understand the way it has been designed by Roland, sorry for that.. I mean Do I have to create a scene with all instruments for each song and then add them to a chain? Is the chain a combination of songs for a single song or a scene is only for a single song? Please help me 😅 all videos I saw always are showing solutions where the Fantom use drum and bass as well but in my scenario I am only playing with real drummer and musicians, so I need to use only sound to be played with these people, no Fantom drum or bass or guitars, Thank you in advance
@DigitalDoxology
@DigitalDoxology 27 күн бұрын
Yes, you have the basic idea correct! What worked easiest for me was to create a template scene with all the basic general instruments I want, then copy and paste the template scene several times over and over again. Then set up each song (or scene) as a different song track, then chain the songs together later to make a complete song set.. kinda tedious, but once you do that the work is mostly done! Then you can always set up a new chain later with a different song order. I use it mostly to play short - hour gigs and entertain groups or to lead a 20-25 minute worship set.
@DigitalDoxology
@DigitalDoxology 27 күн бұрын
Also, if you are playing with a live drummer and bass player, then you just create a generic scene with instruments you want to use or play, I.e. regular piano on one song, then maybe an Leslie organ, vibes, strings and so on… then just switch channels on the fly in between songs.

Informative video - good info to have. I can apply this to my DP-006. I really wish Tascam would come out with a 16 track version of this unit. Actually you’re only getting 18 tracks since the last six are set up mainly as stereo tracks (13-24) with the first twelve tracks being mono, but yeah I rarely use or need more than eight tracks. If this is the case then with only 8 inputs, how would you access and use the other 16 tracks? Thanks.
@DigitalDoxology

@@lyntonfairbourne7408 yes, you can record 8 inputs in one pass, but afterwards you can record 8 additional inputs on top of that, and so on without losing quality using virtual tracks. That’s what makes it so helpful. Tracks 13-24 are set up as stereo tracks by the way.

Not sure what's happening with your vocals there, check to make sure your second vocal doesn't have some kind of unwanted effect added to it that might be causing that. Question 2 - when you look at your song file you will have a file for each separate track, then you will have the mix file (it will be a .wav file) then if you use the mastering tools to normalize the track - you will see a second .wav file on there as well. The original mix will usually add a letter "Z" in the file name to designate that .wav file as the original mix. If you listen to the two files and compare them - you will hear a difference. Hope this helps you.

That is strange… never had that happen to me before, when I read the forums here’s what I found. The DP has a setting you can set in the menu that will let it power off after a set time period of non-use unless you have a track triggered (lit up red) to record. I’d check that first- check your AC power adapter and cord next if problem continues. But, I’ve never heard of it coming back on after being shut down 🤨 now, if you’ve checked everything and nothing else seems to be awry- then as long as it doesn’t shut down during use, I would continue using it but observe it as you shut down etc. definitely weird for sure 🧐

My best advice is to go back and double check everything (maybe you've done this already... but here goes anyway) make sure you have the input for track 3 set to the same source input as the guitar is using (I always use H and make sure you have it set on the back for Guitar input - the little orange Guitar light comes on) I also recommend using headphones so you don't get feedback. I have an Ovation acoustic electric that I use and it will feed back if I am using the monitors. Make sure you have the track "triggered" for recording (the red light is on) also double check the black "Trim" knob to make sure it's turned up. I usually set mine about 1/2 way if you go to high the "OL" button will light up showing you have it overloaded. Also, here's another thing - are you trying to hear through headphones, monitor outs or Stereo outs? I use headphones and stereo outs just for my own tastes but Monitor outs will operate a little differently. it you're still having issues - try turning off the effects and see if you can get just the raw guitar coming through. It could be something you have set in the effects area is not allowing the guitar to come into the mix. I hope something here helps, sometimes you just have to try different things and troubleshoot the problem that way - if you are like me, you will suddenly stumble onto something you missed and it starts working for you! Best wishes for a good outcome!

You can make changes during the recording at any time - but it won’t let you make changes during the mastering process. So, make all your changes before mastering. As far as you second question - check channel 3’s assignment and make sure the button turns red to record in it. Not sure how you’re set up on 3 & 4 I usually have mine set up for left one 3 and right on 4 or something like that 👍
