Very inspiring game! You played it super well and showed this game is not only about a strong engine.

never any thoughts of keeping condor for free bird and easy forest bird and little bustard in grassland for same reason easy bird to slot in and get a card or an egg. this give you all the proper food to play 3 birds and go from there?

It's good no one else had greater flamingo with mocking bird etc

There should be a way to see what's been tucked in digital...right?
@larrychatfield2 күн бұрын
nope it's not necessary as cards tucked from the deck even in physical game are not looked at

33:40 yeah yesterday I saw and recognized a beautiful Kingfisher and I got so excited! Definitely would have never happened before I played wingspan haha

Amazing game Flan! You're always so patient drawing lots of cards and waiting to find what you want, it's so interesting to watch.

Interesting - I’d probably have grabbed the Dove, played it in grassland, and chose the card draw and grabbed the blackbird.
@raptor3375 күн бұрын
Yes, I was thinking the same thing, especially since it hits the round 3 end goal. The hesitation I have is the similar food cost with the Blackbird. I think I would have kept the chickadee instead of the Tui, but we'll done on the ending score!

Did you undervalue turkey vulture rd 1? 4 pts (eor included) for zero food and also the ability to essentially neutralize a bird your opponent already played? One food is generally better than the typically one point a predator power gets for your opponent
@WinginitWingspan3 күн бұрын
I think 4 points is not worth it, I'd need more than that to go out of my way to play it. Remember as well the eagle they played scores 2 points for each hit, not just 1, so it doesn't completely neutralise the threat

The Phoebe and Hummingbird are terrible bird, I always lose when I play them. Or sometimes I played for the cheap starting bird, I'll never use their ability. I can only win when I don't use their ability.

Good game Flan! I feel a bit less bad about the score difference now that I see how your draw went 😂 In hindsight I may have focused too heavily on the counter, but I had little else to work with.

Wow the Black Woodpecker really helped boost the early game quite a lot, very cool when you get a lot of food from the RNG powers
@ultimognu_catan16 күн бұрын
That may have been the best starting hand I've ever seen, very well played. I'm curious about playing the Wagtail in the wetlands and then the Tuckers in the grasslands, I think I put Wagtail in the grasslands and then barn Swallow in the wetlands. What made you go down this route?
@TicTac213 күн бұрын
It's quite standard to put tuckers in the grassland for card access from outside the wetlands and also the potential for a high scoring grasslands activation through the game (could be useful if card draw is bad for example)

I’ve actually really started to like the moving birds in Oceania. Getting one out at the start of the game is really nice because it essentially fills all three first slots at once

I've started to really like the Many-Colored Fruit Dove recently, You don't have to sweat giving oppo's berries too much, and it's just incredible having all the extra food for tray resets and extra eggs. Craziest game I've had recently involded a Fruit Dove, Catbird, Chiff Chaff forest with a singular Kelp Gull in the Wetlands...didn't end up being the highest scoring game, but definitely one of the most fun!

It's funny how Oceania makes some of these 3 food Migratory Birds an occasional play instead of instant food or tuck and draw fodder

I was your opponent here - thanks for a great game!! Tough for both of us but as I said after our game, absolutely hilarious that chat was the star at the end. Really well played!
@heldon795119 күн бұрын
Good match! Definitely did not expect the Chat to be so good at the end. I also had a fun Wingspan mini game idea I wanted to share! You and a friend reading out bird trivia or playing bird calls while the other tries to guess which bird it is. I tried it with my partner but we were pretty bad 😂
@WinginitWingspan19 күн бұрын
I think I'd have a decent shot with the trivia, but no chance with the bird calls 😅

good old Blyth's Hornbill. I have sometimes been lured into planning around it single-mindedly when I draw it early, & I end up skipping better engines/plays. I just love the strategy of it too much ::)

8:45 This really surprised me. Did you really not even consider that 10pt (considering your bonus card) Warbler in the tray that also was a final EOR qualifier? I almost did a spit take when you reset the tray. 😉

@JoelBarnes029 күн бұрын
It looks like you ignore the EOR goals in weighing your starting hands. Is that a typical strategy?
@WinginitWingspan19 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say I ignore them, but I don't put much weight on them in the decision. At the start, I would sooner keep a bird that can give me value through a brown power or extending out a habitat, than one which might give me some value on an EOR goal. If I can get something that works for the first EOR goal then that might make me lean more towards keeping it, but I generally wouldn't keep something just because it works for EOR 3 or 4, that's too far into the game to have any real early game value
@zacharyjames3091Ай бұрын
Tough Bonus Cards- You could have made 8 on Mechanical Engineer, and a 4 point Omni wouldn't have been so bad to see either
