@@UncleVague An absolute nightmare! All walls, doorframes and doors are off. I'm always torn on whether to go with the slope or build everything level and make the wonkiness more noticeable. I went for building it all level here, hence the gaps. The walls are also a nightmare to drill into - either rock hard or crumbly. It's a house of horrors! 😂🤣

@@HouseFairyDIY Ah I really feel for ya, I understand what you mean about those old walls, it's a special moment when you can drill a hole that actually resembles a hole instead of an "open eye" kind of shape 🤣 I'm working my way through your videos, you've done so much, and while it feels never ending sometimes, it will all pay off, but alas there will always be something to keep you busy. It's also fun....sometimes 😁👍

I can sympathise with that! My advice is to add a tad more water, seeing as it's summer. Don't forget to seal your floor first. Have an extra bag ready just in case. You can always return unused bags to the shop. Good luck!
@LewisThatch2 ай бұрын
Don’t really understand what the floor was self level for because didn’t put enough on to level it out if u put a straight edge on it it will be really bumpy and up and down.unless it’s just for show or to paint 🤷♂️
@HouseFairyDIY2 ай бұрын
Yes, it was more to smooth the surface as the floor was already level. In my other video, you can see me using a spirit level at the end and it shows it's perfectly level. I wanted a super smooth surface because I was installing rectified porcelain tiles and wanted to make the job easier to avoid lippage.

@HouseFairyDIY6 ай бұрын
It sure was painful! I must have tried to squeeze it in about 30 times! I often turn the sound off because of all the huffing, puffing and cursing! 🤣Pickle jumped on my lap. He's a rescue and stuck to me like glue. Diddy is far more cool! I have now owned five Yorkies. Yes, very yappy little lunatics but I've tried other breeds and not enjoyed them as much. Thanks for the comment! 😍

It was a lot more work than shown in this video. I must have tried about 15 times! I wish I'd just taken all the plaster off at the start. Lesson learnt! Pickle (the dog) now tells people I couldn't have done it without his help!

FWIW, A rubber mallet is pretty cheap and made for what you did with your foot. And a lot easier to check with your eyes closer to ground level. You did a great job, but a rubber mallet will come in handy for other projects, too. You remind me of what my life used to be like. A hard worker! These days I'm a one-man crew, though.
@HouseFairyDIY6 ай бұрын
I did have a large rubber mallet but it wasn't impactful enough, so resorted to using my feet in places. Using my feet also meant I could squidge back and forth, which helped.

They're lovely those old Victorian fireplaces Hannah but I get the want for a wood burner. I'm really considering getting one myself. They seem to be cheap enough to buy but it's the installation I'm told. Hope alls well with you and Lottie. Just found you on Instagram too. I'm making in roads to contributing to social media world again after a break away...
@HouseFairyDIY8 ай бұрын
Hi Andy. I still have three cast iron fireplaces and they aren't going anywhere. I suspect the Victorians set up a kitchen in the front room and decided they didn't need a range in the back room, so switched it for one purely for heating. It was a very green room as I've also found green hearth tiles and green doorframe paint. I was told it would cost £5k for a log burner to be bought and installed. However, that cost has now been reduced to about £2k I believe as I've opened up the fireplace myself, will tile the hearth myself, the chimney and flue are in good condition and all I need now is to get a cherry picker man to drop a liner down...and buy the burner. I could just use a grate...still an option! Good to hear you will be making more videos. You must be feeling a little better. What you need is a little dog on the front of your canoe 🐕
