Hypothetically, if I pay for my stuff, refuse to show a receipt, someone tries to block me, so I physically do what I have to do to get by them, and fight them if they don’t move. What would happen?

I was harassed at the self check. The woman I guess did not see what I was doing. I take the hand held scanner and scan all my stuff then I bag it. She stopped me and started looking in my bags and checking on the screen if I rang up stuff. I was hot, weak, had just been to the doctor and had an infection and almost lost it. I am a quiet person. I don’t talk back. I try to be kind to everyone. I should have walked out. All she had to do is look at the total. I spent over 100 dollars on a little bit of stuff!! That should have told her I rang it all up without hassling and embarrassing me. While she was aggravating me I’m sure others got away with stealing!! I hope so!! I am not going back to that Walmart. I am 60 and I used to work in Walmart as a vendor. She was rude and did not care that I felt like I was going to pass out!! 😡. Would not have done any good for me to go to customer service or call!! Walmart does not care. I know this because my husband just retired from Sam’s. They treated him awful. Wrote him up for doing the right thing. He worked there over 30 years and used to love his job. He knew more than the managers. He was treated like a new hire!! He was cussed at and yelled at. He retired at 62. He hates Sams and will never step foot in there again!!😡

Keep in mind that if you flip out and get angry or aggressive as you refuse to stop and show receipts the store can trespass you and have you arrested if you return. Just not worth the B.S.

I guess I'm a total idiot...I thought being honest and truthful with the police was the best thing to do in Georgia when I was pulled over a few months ago...i have had this happen in Alabama and Georgia....I get asked if I take medication and if so had I had it that day?? I said yes and I was asked what kind of medication so I told them.....I talk pretty fast it's a trauma response....also I compulsivly blink my eyes alot...like turbo blinking and I don't even realize I'm doing it. My eye dr says I have one of the worst cases of dry eye she has ever seen..and gave me a prescription for eye drops...but law enforcement come up to my window and look in my face and the rapid blinking and my fast talking mouth they immediately think I'm high on crystal meth.. and then I'm told to get out of my vehicle for field sobriety test.. and also at this time i could not walk hardly at all I had back surgery scheduled I had a cyst between my L-4 and L-5 that caused excruciating pain from my lower back all the way down my leg into my feet.....so I explained to ghp that I could not walk or stand at any length of time...he said I could lean back against his car....he did his test and because I said i had taken my gabapentin and blood pressure meds and a tramadol he arrested me for dui controlled substance then took me to the hospital for a blood test and they also searched my vehicle.. .this whole incident cost me 8 days in jail... 1000.00 to bond out finally and almost 800.00 to get my suv out of tow yard.. and at the time of the arrest I had both of my full grown big dogs in my truck with me so i had to pick them up and got to alabama as fast as I could ..I go before the judge in the morning.....I have never had a duo before in my life....until I watched these videos I didn't realize I need representation....this just gets worse and worse...

Should also be noted if you have a dashcam with GPS speed tracking, don't get too excited it proves you were not speed. It may not be admissible into evidence without an expert witness testifying to it's accuracy! Source: I was clocked doing 67 in a 45, I felt like I was going 50 and my GPS dashcam video said 52. Could not use it as evidence without spending thousands flying in an expert..

Instead of being a pain to people just doing their job, why wouldn't you just go to another store that doesn't ask for receipts. I'll be so glad when stores have facial recognition and ban people who act like asses over a piece of paper. Those 'checkers' didn't put themselves there. The company did. Show your receipt or shop elsewhere and complain to the corporate headquarters instead of being cowardly

Thanks for the video. I have the same perspective that you have. I did find a lawyer on YT who feels like Walmart can force you to show the receipt. He was very accurate in his wording though saying "Walmart can force you to show the receipt if they have reason to believe you shop lifted", but he continues on to say that you should only shop at Walmart if you agree to that policy. Here is the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/a53Wln14hq6Hpacsi=lgwM5NKfw2HrZ5DN. I wonder if you have a response to this. I personally think it's crazy that Walmart will try to force people to show receipts for their own property, and people should not tolerate it.

A little over 25 yrs ago I hired a guy that was working in what was supposed to be the smallest WalMart on the planet. We did a phone interview & he was talking about the quarterly inventory that they were about to do, then we did a face to face meeting while they were in the middle of it, & his first orientation/training day was right after - & he just couldn’t stfu about how the smallest WalMart on the planet had suffered a mere $1.7M in shrink over 90 days time. That’s all but $19,000 a day walking out the door & into a community of less than 4,000 people. 🤨

When you enter someone's store , you lost your right as soon you enter store. As long as you are on and in someone's property. You are under the eye in the sky camera view. If you don't like to show receipt then stay out of the stores that ask you for receipt.

You need to tell us which state you are talking about. Shopkeeper's privilege is very different from state to state. In my state, all the store has to do is claim that you looked suspicious to them when they asked you to show your receipt, and they can physically detain you to force you to show the receipt. Unless you are recording the entire encounter, and ask the right questions, the store is always right (they are all trained to immediately claim you are acting suspiciously) - in my state anyway.

Can I ask you what I should do? I went through self checkout they shut the machine down 4 times to make the employee come over”he did” there were two employees at self checkout watching me the whole time, I did two separate transactions. So two times each purchase the man had to come over” I know exactly why, bc they are able to shut the machine down bc they want an employee to check your stuff to make sure you paid, which mean someone was watching in the camera room too. I went to leave stopped at the atm, right when my money comes out and I go to grab it, I hear hey is this your receipt? I said what, she said this is your receipt and this is not everything you have in your cart, “my second transaction was small just four items” I said okay so, and she said I need to see your receipt for all those items, I said if you don’t get out of my face, I said go over there and talk with the guy they sent to check my items, she grabs my cart and will not let me leave, she said listen just give me the receipt, I said I’m not showing you shit, and she tugged at my cart when I went to leave again, I said I don’t legally have to show you anything, she said yes you do, I said my receipt is right there I pointed to it hanging out my purse, she literally puts her hand in my cart and grabs the receipt (which again was halfway in my purse) I swatted her hand and said what the f are you doing, have you lost your mind, she wasn’t letting me leave and I just pulled out the receipt and said there it is see the length now get out of my face and I just walked out. What course of action should I take, this literally happened about 15 minutes ago and I’m am furious right now, I cannot believe she put her hand on my stuff like that. It’s crazy bc they know damn well I wasn’t stealing I was right by their little register (literally) the guy was sent over four times, and I was being watched by someone in the camera room, plus the lady who did all this. It was very embarrassing.

I had one of those people tell me that I was not obligated to show him my receipt. He said it was optional. He told me they asked to see the receipts of people when they had something unbagged in their shopping cart. One thing that gets me though is now if you use one of those self checkout machines it gives you the option of not printing out a receipt. What happens when they ask to see your receipt and you don't have one because you opted not to print one out at the self checkout? I saw a man in the Wal Mart in my hometown say no Mam! when a female greeter asked to see his receipt. She said nothing at all and he went on his way. But going by some of these videos I have seen some of these door greeters act like communist enforcers and they act as if the shoppers are their subjects! It's almost like a "Your Papers Please?" Thing going on.

I also choose not to stop for receipt checkers. I generally keep walking with a simple "no thank you" and thankfully nothing has come of it yet. One thing I'd add to your video is that the stores do still own their carts so they do have the right to stop & reclaim their carts at any time. For that reason I generally don't buy more than what I can carry, so like ~4 bags worth of goods at one time.

So I have this person who keeps removing my links to caselaw about cases on this subject. As in news websites, and actual court docket links. and they keep getting removed. Or so it seems. Maybe, instead of removing, we should engage in debate over the interpretation of the ruling in these real cases. I'm not calling anyone out, because I believe in your rights to have an opinion.

These stores are not doing this just, or even mostly, "to catch employee theft". They do this because they know most of their customers will be detered from just walking out without paying if given the opportunity. Video servalence cannot do what receipt checkers can. The axium that 'locks are to keep honorable people honest, (dishonorable people break/pick locks), applies here. They know that most sheeple will show their receipt whether they are obligated, or not, to do so.
