I’m trying to figure out how to train my husky. He’s about a year an a half , we got him a few months ago. Anyone with a husky knows they SUCK at training and have short attention spans. They’re great at training when inside because they’re super smart- but outside it’s impossible. I’ve taken out treats- even BACON and he won’t listen. They pull like hell too. If we were to try a gentle leader or whatever he’d jump around until he got it off. When huskies are outside their mode changes to GO and don’t come back. He escaped one time and I went out with treats and a leash ( he loves ) and he looked at me, turned around and full force sprinted down the street. Within seconds he was out of sight. Anyone have some tips? I’ve literally tried everything. Now I think the only thing left is to either not walk him or deal with the pulling- which I can’t because he’s a bit strong for me.

I watched one of those dogs BT nearly bite the face off a baby He's a one year old neutered male and has never been aggressive until the near mauling. What would cause this sudden aggressive behavior? I don't trust him. Not my dog

MaryLynn I know as a 100% fact that an aggressive owner makes an aggressive dog. So if that dog bit someone then it was likely abused by its owner.

Why are you using that kind of a collar on a Boston terrier? First of all you should always use a harness because you can do damage to their eyes. Second, if you can't train a dog without causing pain then you are not an effective trainer. It's very easy to train a dog with positive reinforcement and you develop a lasting bond. If you put that kind of collar on me, I would do anything you told me to, but I would hate you and when the pain was removed I would not repeat your commands. But hey, what do I know...you're the one making bank with this training method.

Amy Christensen I absolutely love this comment you did because my Boston Terri has the same problem. When I put a collar on, her eyes turn red if we pull and I get so worried. But a harness is perfect.

Amy Christensen I totally agree! My dog loves training and we use a harness, I would NEVER use a prong on ANY dog no matter what. I hope people read ur comment.

Yeah, my pup is a large 85 lbs and she has massive energy and zero patience with this method. I've had other breeds of dogs known for their energy but my current fur baby takes the cake and some. Girl gets 3-4 workouts a day until she drops each time and still decides she can go for a walk after and pulls like I did all that work to tire her out for nothing. Pulls like crazy and it's like a small child with a big sugar rush.

Border Collies are just really....different. They all seem to have a certain quirk that just comes with their breed to want to keep everything together. Probably because they're herders. Working BCs want to keep their sheep together. Pet BCs want to keep their toys together. Do you ever do any herding work as a fun side thing?

OK< REAL QUESTION: I have been trying to adopt a belgian for over a month now and no luck. whats the deal? Do I have to break down and save up 2K to buy a puppy because im not law enforcement? Im a damn Marine Corps vet though I need a good dog
@Weirdanimalboy9 жыл бұрын
+CBD bio It depends on where you want to get it from and why. If you just want a pet, there are many places where you can get a Malinois after people who couldn't handle them gave them up. If you want a Malinois as a pet but from a breeder, then you may be able to get a pup for a fair price. But if you want a pup from working lines the price goes up. The prices goes up even more so for an already trained work dog.

how would this work with a 187 pound mastiff with past abuse issues who goes into flight mode when he sees the same type person that beat him,burned him and tried to kill him? The dog does not care if he cuts his throat open during a flight mode,this dog is such a mellow big dog, he has very few issues, his owner is the one with the issues here. Can you do a training with a highly abused dog in full flight mode instead of a calm dog with no problems besides a submissive owner
@shayrose77056 жыл бұрын
zhinka id say in this case don’t walk him. It sucks but it’s safest for everyone. Mastiffs don’t live long and if you already adopted him at a few years old he only has a few years left ( sorry if that’s too straight up, my friends raise mastiffs and regular life span is about five years. ) there are other ways to keep him happy than walking him, and if you still want to get him outside on a leash if you can CONTROL him, try going out to the countryside or woods where there are zero other people around.

So easy with a clicker, why would anyone pay someone to show they can use devices of torture to bully a dog into compliance, when you can do the job as quickly and easily with a fun method based on a foundation of trust and 2 way communication.
@shayrose77056 жыл бұрын
Diana Attwood clickers are actually not easy to use for walking methods. Unless the dog is trained to know the clicker means treats since a puppy.

But can you do it WITHOUT a prong collar or a choke chain? Just a regular collar?
@zzzz319011 жыл бұрын
I don't know about "pack leader" sounds a little too Cesar Milanesque for me but studies indicate POSITIVE reinforcement vs Negative is advantageous in a about a 1000 different ways. (Too many to go into here)
@zzzz319011 жыл бұрын
It is a choke collar but with prongs on the inside that pinches the skin. They work, yes, because it HURTS when they pull. I am a female dog trainer and I have trained even the strongest largest dogs without a prong collar. Positive training methods work longer and if you use a prong collar the dogs won't behave without it.

OOHH be wary of the trainer who guarantees things. Umm Question, do you think you have one single video where you think your way through a problem instead of adding an aversive device or some form of physical force. the answer just seems to be "hurt them", if you dont know how just cause them pain. Seems like alot of trainers dont know how. Im tired of doing this crap to my dog. I got him to do fun things with him and enjoy having a dog. Instead im supposed to make his life miserable?

Every dog is ecxited on whatever collar or leash. I used to use a choke collar on my lab and my malinois, and they always get ecxited even if it hurts them. So even if ur dog is happy. It's not happy because of the collar, it's happy to go outside! So no matter what it's still abusive at any way

It works but it's abusive. Because how would u feel if someone put the same collar on you because u pull and it hurts every time and won't stop pulling to get away from it (if u were a dog)

Mine too! If i record my dogs walking i can't i just can't because when i'm holding the leash, i can't hold the camera because of their massive pulling!

from my own experience, i found using a walking stick very helpful... put the walking stick infront of the dog while walking and every time my dog tried pass i tap him on the nose, my dog was a boxer and he was very smart by the 3rd walk he would never walk infront of me (i never EVER hit him hard, just a tap) although my pup (which is a lab) pulls extensively the walking stick never worked on her..
@Mehaffey111 жыл бұрын
that shows the trainer is dominant and the dog knows that, look at the way the dog is pulling back to be with its owner, rather than the trainer. doesnt seem to be a good trainer to me.
@Mehaffey111 жыл бұрын
In all fairness the dog does not pull... when you change direction like that, it makes the dog aware of where you are. for instance if the dog was off the lead, the dog would make sure to keep an eye on you (incase you change direction) to stop a dog from pulling you use clicker training, but from the dog above it is not pulling at all but maybe its my opinion and im used to stronger dogs, from the video i can see the dog prefers to listen to its owner rather than the trainer.
