Thank you so much for this video. I'm a sign language interpreter and this is excellent to help me prepare for interpreting dental appointments.

I myself is hard of hearing/deaf individual who is stuck at being the ‘fifth’ element between couples. Your perception is totally understandable. I worked hard at being respectful as a classroom’s teacher and yes, I also very mindful of the appropriate attire for the other side of ‘professionals’ among ‘interpreters’. I have had several concerns regarding with several ‘professionals’ if they were properly ‘trained’ as professionals. The social jokes among people is not amusing and not okay. If the person have too high of heels, then it is not okay. Why? Because it would not be considered a business attire.

I notice you sign food as one time at the mouth. I learned that it needed to be signed two times to make the distinction between noun/verb pairs, or else it looks like the verb "to eat." I recognize that putting food to the mouth is also gestural. Would love your thoughts on this?

This ties directly into everyone's human-right to have language, and to choose which ones are their own, it is solely a personal choice. I graduated as a Sculptor specifically, at age 9, I was put in a deaf class for my fourth grade, three years ago I started learning ASL and it started flooooding back to me, like movie Avatar, bird combine hairs, eyes grow wide~ It makes me wonder where I belong. The only cultural appropriation is Russia's 500 year exploit of Ukraine, and easily a hundred other countries around them they assimilated, everything else is secondary. Here's the kicker, the reason for discrimination is always the same, Proxy, it has everything to do with the Discriminator, their actions toward others, so each individual should not itemize our specific physical qualities or backgrounds, we all need to band together against Discrimination. It costs them more to keep us down. Proxy is the reason for Discrimination, so put the pressure directly on Proxy, where it belongs. Enforcement of Scarcity, or Celebration of Abundance, where do we put our energies? What do we use our resources to do? What we Focus on, Expands~~ Same as language itself, some things are universal, like the process by which all life learns, Crawl Stand Walk Run Skip Dance Fly, it is not owned by the first person to put it into words, as it exists all around us, every animal shows us, it is a gift to understand this, one that empowers us to become more, and by signing that sequence as classifiers, I made signing decisions that find their way into my movements when signing about other things, like animals moving, it's an exercise that expands my understanding of ASL, one that others would learn from as well. Signing Naturally is just the tip of the iceberg, the first class, the class survey, they asked what would improve my experience, I said, in a thousand years, we'll know more about how to teach more effectively, just two years after that class, and I do know more, and wish to convey it to every teacher, my experiences in learning, what works best for me, as someone who learns slooooowly, who was suuuuuper rigid, that is invaluable, how to teach those who are regarded as unteachable, I bring this to the table.

So my first video, I did three pigs, really mashed it up good, the pig built a city, and the wolf ate the city, it turned out well, and I wanted others to join in and be creative too, so I ended my video with "your-Turn", I did that in several videos, wanting people to understand that the stories are open-ended, but no one understood, there was even one person who copied my "your-Turn" ending sign, I thought, nooooooooo, they swiped my long-standing established symbology, and I have collected dozens of ASL teachers in a list for new learners to find, and I didn't put them in it. Support goes both ways~

My signing improves greatly when describing how things interact with me spatially, both in use of classifiers, which helps me think in the space around me instead of in words, and that helps my flow, as I'm not bogged down overloaded processing between languages, it's a direct connection. I think ASL itself is my main compensatory strategy, as it opens me up, breaks my rigidity, all around it's become a part of me~

Thank you so much! This was very helpful. Yes, the over-articulation was related to speech because the person speaks quicklyand others aren't able to understand. 🤟

I'm watching this video to really refresh my memory of signing but also how to convey these topics in my everyday business with my Deaf clients. Would it be possible to see this with subtitles or a transcript so that it's helpful for me to fully understand missed signs?

I just watched a video from 1980 by Scott Liddell, number 34 of 36, the content of the tutorial was explaining a catalog with a variety of products all having the ILY handshape on it, I remember some time ago someone tried to corner the market on that, but it was older than they were, that-Thaaat~

The first sign I learned from context was "Twin", because redundancy, sister, brother, 1 minute older, oh, it explained the sign I was unfamiliar with, perfect~ Another redundancy is this, I put allll the youtube ASL teachers in my list of channels, super redundancy, learn from many hands, complete that language bridge, if I learn from only one hand, then other hands are still outside of my receptive range, because I didn't practice on those hands yet, it makes a difference, redundancy~

Also, many ASL students tend always sit on right side of room, why? see teacher's thumb, the ASL map isn't developed enough in their brain yet where they can see through objects, fill in the blanks, until they can do that, they are better off sitting with best view of thumb, again, it make a difference~

I had a client sign the (fist behind fist) and his meaning for that was behind the back, hidden agenda, ulterior motive, something to that effect. We were trying to figure out the best English translation for it.

Hi! Thx for comment! Would need to see in context...but that is another meaning set for that sign depending on context, facial grammar etc... I like your ideas of ulterior motive, hidden agenda, real motivation, what was behind it...etc... Have a super week/end ahead! I'm going camping...how about you? Have to enjoy these summer weekends!!! Take care ~SH

Recently at my work, we use the word redundancy to it a bit more of a negative connotation than the examples given here, like “we are abolishing a position to reduce redundancies”. So in that case some signing something like “OVERLAP WORK” might work, or at least a spot to expand, people doing the same job, needlessly.
