when lm at home l eat potatoes, rice, bean burritos, bread. l stick to my starches. l cheat once in awhile when dining out which is not much. The starch solution works for me

I did a full year a couple of years ago. I was successful. Then a long drawn out "perfect storm" happened and I went back to my old ways. A week from today I am beginning another year long potato challenge.

If I’m used to eating a lot will this diet help me? Like if I really enjoy boiled potatoes plain without anything else and only that, would I be able to eat as many potatoes as I want without putting on weight? Cause I love eating ALOT
@SpudFitАй бұрын
yes this is perfect for you! One of our golden rules is to eat as much as you feel like, as often as you feel like it!

Beautiful. Amazing stuff, Andrew. Thank you for all you do. The bit starting from around 40:00--Spot. On. What a fantastic and powerful perspective shift. This one will live on with me. As always, deep bow to Dr McDougall (RIP) and the entire McDougall family. Peace, Love, & Potatoes

Keep up the good work Andrew. I fully intend to at some point to do an extended period of potato only dieting I’ve never had weight problems but I want to use it as a way to draw attention to how our diets are destructive to the environment. Potatoes being one of the most land, water efficient vegetables along with being one of the most nutritional. It seems like an ideal choice. Thanks for being an inspiration.

I have been reading about the solanine content in potatoes. This has me concerned, as they feature more and more in my daily diet. I have been eating 300-400 grams in each meal, sometimes twice daily. Typically one meal is potatoes, peels on, steamed in the microwave. The second meal is the leftover potatoes cooked that way, then chilled in the refrigerator. Should I put a cap of the grams eaten each day, to avoid alkyloid toxicity?
@SpudFitАй бұрын
I honestly don't think solanine is anything to worry about. Don't eat green peels and you'll be fine.

I weigh out my potatoes and usually eat 300-400 grams in a meal. It’s a lot of food and I’m full but losing weight. It’s also very easy, quick to prep, and cheap… like the cheapest meal in town 😂

I noticed this after wilderness trips when I was younger and fitter. When they were over we'd go to a hotel in the nearest tourist town for 2-3 days, and go out to eat for every meal. Going from no-choice meals in the woods to a plethora of choices, debating endless restaurant choices with a partner, making menu decisions (calorie splurge vs healthy? this entree vs that one?) was supposed to be fun but felt like a mental burden, compared to the simplicity of life in the woods. OTOH, sleeping in a bed and having a shower again was pure heaven!
@SpudFit2 ай бұрын
Yes I've noticed that before too, I love the simplicity of being in the middle of nowhere.

I’m finishing my first week eating 95% potatoes while avoiding oil. Day 1 I was 300 lb today day 6 I weighed in at 291.3 lb. Unbelievable…My digestion and energy is improving daily. My trick is to use popcorn seasoning or tomato sauce to change it up. *I use a POTATO RICER its key in portion control so Im eating the same portions in each meal* VERY IMPORTANT I try to eat roughly 2 to 3 large bowls (riced)each day. There is no turning back I’m going to do a year of spuds. Spudfit/starch solution works. It’s not easy you will crave other foods but when you have cravings ask yourself is it too painful or unbearable? it’s neither compared to fasting (i once fasted for 5 days in a row - it was hell.. also your going to try to convince yourself to add things to the diet don’t do this because eventually you’ll just keep adding until your eating everything again. Good luck

To Dr. Michael Klapper - Dr. McDougall has been dead just a few days. Message to the other Plant-Based doctors from us, the McDougallers, is Hyatt John has a monumental amount of work, we could spend the rest of our lives studying it all and not be reading the same papers or newsletter or videos, twice! His method worked. Do I only eat potatoes? No but I usually eat a baked potato for breakfast daily. I enjoy it. I am at goal, and am maintaining my weight loss. Dr. McDougall was a doctor who loved his patients and his well deserved fan club. He loved us, and we returned the admiration. If you cannot stand that you are not going to get any number of us jumping ship to join your camp, well, learn to live with it. John was right and “the truth don’t change”.

Dr Klapper is a very good man who has helped a great number of people too. He and Dr McDougall were good friends and they agree on almost everything, they don't have to be in perfect alignment.
