I'm sorry, but Amy Grant's version of this song sucks.

"And when I'm sad, she comes to me. A thousand smiles, she gives to me free. Said "it's alright, take anything you want from me" I really love those lyrics.

This lacks the toxic menace of the studio version, which made it especially interesting.

I'm looking forward to seeing Malcolm again in August 2024 in Newton NJ. On a side note, not intended as a complaint about this version, I've yet to hear any Cream-related members and inner-circle members or children, pull of the incredible shift from 'hard, like a slow moving train' (to quote a Tom Petty phrase) into the blistering place of Wheels of Fire and back again. That may have been a once-in-a-period opportunity. Even Cream themselves kept the same tempo in many of the alternate versions I've heard from their brief 2 years together, and the versions I've heard from Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce separately and together in concert in the following decades. I mention this because Wheels of Fire version is what turned me on to guitar at age 12. As my older brother said at the time, 'How do they even practice something like this?" and that stuck with me.

Life encapsulated but not contained. Hendrix above other black songwriters imo. Allman Duane ran out on self.

Sounds like they mixed the second solo with another day's performance for the album.

10bohemian - Thank You Soooooo Much for what you have uploaded. For a Clapton lover, 70 - 80 concerts, to hear live versions of so many songs I thought I would never hear live, well that's Heaven. Thank you again, again and then some.

The Layla album exists in its own singular, magic bubble. There is nothing remotely like it and never will be again, it was a lightning strike of unplanned, majestic brilliance.

Knowing Hendrix like Clapton did, it says a lot that Clapton gave Duane the soloing in Little Wing.

I don't know why people have to dumb it down by saying so and so is or was " the greatest of all time" . That's such a half-assed way to look at guitar players . They are artists. Not sportsmen or competitors in some tournament. Nobody would say a certain artist who painted with oils or this sculptor is the greatest of all time. It depends on what you like to look at. Its the same with musicians. Sure there are levels of skill or technical proficiency but anyone who only admires musicians who can display those traits is not the type of person I could relate to or talk about music with.
