The music is excellent, even if the sound level isn't. Thank you very much for sharing this.

Today we learned that Brendan Mulvihill has passed away. What a treat to have heard him at one of his last performances. His many tunes will live on......may he rest in peace.

I always thought Angelina got her tone playing up near the fretboard? She seems to be doing the opposite here? ❤
@OldPunkWithAMandolinАй бұрын
Can you point to any video examples of Angelina playing up near the fretboard? Just curious as I've never seen her play up near the fretboard and I used to take lessons from her. It would be a difficult way to play trad music on the tenor banjo as well I would think.
@michaeladams2644Ай бұрын
@OldPunkWithAMandolin I was told that was how she achieved that woody tone she gets, never seen any other videos just have a cd

Well, this was a nice surprise!! I’m Don Gish’s granddaughter! I used to travel with them to the fiddler contests back in the day! Great memories! Thank you ❤

This bad belt or combination of lp-to-stretchy-tape-to-digital is downright folkloric! The Henry the fiddler lp image added to the confusion. Now I'm trying to correlate the Summer Oaks cut list from discogs. A1West Fork Girls Written-By - Ira Mullins, Wilson Douglas (2) A2Fire On The Mountain / Breaking Up Christmas A3Bonaparte Crossing The Rhine (4:30) A4Snowbird On The Ashbank. (7:35) A5Roustabout A6Santa Anna's Retreat (12:15) A7Barbara's Fancy Written-By - Henry Reed (3) A8Shortening Bread (15:30) A9Dusty Miller (17:24) B1The Falls Of Richmond B2Quince Dillon's High D B3Trude Evans B4Loch Lavan Castle B5Ducks On The Millpond / Sugar Hill / Back Step Cindy B6Peter Francisco B7One More River To Cross B8Barlow Knife B9Fisher's Hornpipe Some of these Tunes are in a book titled back porch flat picking for a mandolin and guitar, which I bought back in 1978 at the Music Emporium in Cambridge, Massachusetts after getting my first mandolin. Authors were Sara Lee Johnson and Maynard R Johnson, who included both fuzzy Mountain LPS in their discography, along with the hollow Rock String Band, the Hammons family, Frank Wakefield with country cooking, and other favorites.

I've been looking for this album for a long time. I met Don Gish at Weiser, Idaho, way back in the 70s and always remembered some of these great tunes, especially "Dad's Jig," Thanks for posting this. This is a rare album.

Such great musicians! First saw them about a decade ago at the Fort Worden Festival of Fiddle Tunes and many times since then. Got to play in a jam lead by Riley and Leo about 5 years ago. Both the Onlies and Riley and Vivian's duo acts are worth seeing.
