I have a couple of old Bburago's from the early 90s, an F40 and a Bugatti EB110 but their newer models are a step change in execution. I bought the 1/24th version of the 499p which is not bad as a shelf filler but the real gems are the 1/24 F1 cars which more than hold their own against my higher end models.

Nice. My first 1/18th was a Bburago 250 Testerrosa then the F40 and 288 GTO. Bburago has come a long way and make some very good models that at typical viewing distance look as good as higher end.

Couldn’t the dark blue be from Mark Donohue’s 917/30? Not a Le Mans car but neither is the yellow Spyder. Just wondering.
@mycarcave6214
@mycarcave6214 3 күн бұрын
Possibly it could be the Sunoco car… I found an article online from Porsche that cited the various vehicles. In that particular article they referenced the Rothman’s cars for the dark blue. So my guess is they tried to keep it LeMans specific with the exception of the RS was more of just a nod to the relationship with Penske

@@markzebr6463 Hello. I have Sparky 1/64 full lineup nr 5, 6, 75 and 38. For 1/43 i will go for Bburago just like i did for Fiat 499P. But for 1/18 i did not see anything in Bburago catalogue and also nothing from IXO. Absolutely gorgeous collection! May I ask you how you did insert the driver figurines into the Elite Ferraris? I suppose you had to disassemble the whole car in order to get them in?
@mycarcave6214
@mycarcave6214 5 күн бұрын
Thank you for you kind words. The Mattel Elites do not come with the driver figures as you already know. So I bought a few "regular releases" and removed the driver from those. To do that you have to take the car apart but its not hard and you can do it and salvage the car. I did the same with the Elite versions. It is 90% screwed parts as I recall so its just about pulling it apart carefully. The only tricky part is the steering connection but you can get it back together. Then I removed the seat/seatbelts from the Elite version. I decaled the Schumacher version then glued it into the Elite version. Put the car back together and there you go. Looks much better to me as I like to have the driver version. I still need to make the 2000 version but I want the early season white helmet so will probably have to make that one as the Mattel Version from the European GP model is terribly oversized. GP Replicas will most likely make each of these Championship cars in time but will probably be al red helmet versions. Once done I took the models I pulled the figures from and put seat belts decals in them and sold them on Ebay. So you can recoupe a bit of the money. It's a good mod and not to hard. Good luck and give it a try.

@@mycarcave6214 Thank you very much for the detailed and helpful description of the whole process. I'm going to look for a cheap or even damaged F2004 on ebay from which I can use the pilot and give it a try. Referring to the F1-2000: I've seen that GP Replicas will make the Monza and the Suzuka versions of that year. Perhaps a version with the white and blue helmet is also in the making. If not, the driver of the Minichamps '97 or '98 Ferrari might be a possible option.

They really did a nice job on this one. I have been waiting and waiting for Looksmart to release theirs to compare, but they seem to be in no rush unfortunately. I got sick enough of waiting that I ordered the BBR Vegas car which I am very pleased with, minus a couple of little QA issues similar to some of the decal things you called out here. I am so close to ordering this livery too, but the one glaring thing that my eye just is having so much trouble overlooking is that they chose to outline the number on the rear engine cover in white instead of the correct red. I might just have to print up a decal or something to place over it and just pull the trigger. Because overall, I think these two models by BBR are outstanding (coming from a largely Spark preferrer).
@mycarcave6214
@mycarcave6214 5 күн бұрын
Agree it is a nice model. My particular one has a few flaws but that would probably just be on mine. I love this livery as it is not a "one off" looking as say the previous years Italian GP or Miami GP of 2024. Not sure why Look Smart is delayed so long. BBR already has a few 2024 Ferrari's out (I am waiting for sale pricing) and Spark has a few 2024's out as well. It is hard to understand why things are released when they are. I want a 2023 Max with the Blue helmet but the only version was a two car box set so far. I also want to pick up the 2023 Vegas Ferrari car as well and will pick which ever one I can get on sale as both Look Smart and BBR do similar jobs. Thanks for watching and commenting. Thanks for the great review! The cockpit is actually quite detailed. One thing that bugs me is that they left off the 'Potenza' lettering on the tyres. They either should have printed it as well, as the car had tires with 'Bridgestone Potenza' lettering on them during scrutineering. Or they could have left off the lettering completely, representing the car as it was on track. Not many photos of the CLR at Le Mans can be found, so it's hard to say with 100 per cent certainty. May be it's a rights issue.

If I recall that one the places where the Mission Win go are blank so it is just adding you do not have to remove anything (that's where I get panicky) . I put Mission Win decals on my SF71H and it looks really good. I believe I bought them from www.tbdecalsmodels.com . So if my memory serves and it is just adding decals go for it. Car will look great afterwards. You can also order two sets, I sometimes do to have a spare if I break a decal or a few years later they are pealing from a poor install on my part. I have the 1985 Tecnomodel Ferrari as the proportions are far superior to the 1985 GP Replicas version, which isn't saying much as the latter is possibly the worst execution I've ever seen for a model. You're right, Tecnomodel have a habit of using giant steering wheels and almost insult the consumer with the lack of details on offer and the incredibly thick wing elements and ends plates. Let's not forget the lack of details on the prancing horse decals and the tiny Goodyear markings on the sidewalls. Still, the basic proportions of the C4 M2 are pretty reasonable. I may buy one to modify. Great video as always!

Thank you for your comments. I am waiting on my 1985 Tecnomodel variants. Shipping is stupidly slow from this vendor all the sudden. Will review them against the GP for a video once I have them. Tecnomodel really does irritate me in that the proportions are good but any exposed engine is that of the cheapest models, spoke wheels are poor, and thick wings are bad. That said they typically offer something others do not. If the model was retailed for$150-$175 not $280 then okay. Would be curious to see what you do to modify one. I had not thought about that but could be enjoyable just to try. Thanks as always for watching!

@mycarcave6214 before we praise Tecnomodel too much for their proportions, have you seen their early season version for the 84 Ferrari? Awful! GP Replicas early season is much better in this respect. Ferrari should have just given the rights to Spark and all these tough decisions regarding compromises will no longer be an issue. To be fair I do like GP Replicas version of the 1986 car. Only drawbacks I can see are the bulges on the rear tyres and the slightly too small Goodyear markings on the front tyres. I too have the Alboreto version.

Sorry, I forgot to say it’s a GP Replicas 1/18 model. I wonder if I can remove the antenna without breaking it and then reinstall it after putting the decal on. Hmm…
@mycarcave6214
@mycarcave6214 14 күн бұрын
Hey thank you for the question...I would not remove the antenna. Not that it cannot be done but my thought is it is glued in and there is a good chance you either break the antenna or the glue pulls the paint (if you are a risk taker you could do it and hope that the decal covers any paint pull). Going from memory I believe the GP Replicas provided decals actually had a hole for the shorter black antenna in the 'b'. I cannot tell on the metal frontal antenna if there was a hole or I cut the slit myself in the 'r/o'. I am going to assume I estimated the location of the front antenna and cut a slit. Then when placing the decal I slipped the larger frontal antenna through the slit I cut then laid the decal down, working front towards the cockpit and aiming to have the shorter black decal go through the pre-cut hole in the 'b'. That said my slit was off thus it did not line up exactly with the pre-cut hole. So it tore a bit. Working around the antennas is not easy. I have cut the Marlboro decal in between letters to place around antennas on other models and years. I uses that Micro Sol or Set to help lay the decal down and so even if you have a split you can pretty much make it disappear if you spend the time lining them up. To do it again I might have placed the decal on the model using the pre-cut hole in the 'b' as a placement guide. Then where the decal hits the back of the frontal metal antenna you could make a small mark with the exacto knife, pull the decal back off place it back on the wet decal paper and make the slit. Then follow my earlier instruction on placing the frontal antenna through the slit you cut and working your way backwards. Last suggestion is you can look online at some of the GP Replicas from Stone Models Car and see where they placed the hole/slit and try to estimate off that one. I did a video review of that particular model and I may have referenced the decals in that but was a while back so do not recall off memory. While it is a bit of a challenge it makes the car look right. Worst case you can probably buy a replacement decal off ebay or TBDecals.com and give it a second shot. Micro Set is also your friend. Long response but hope this helps. They need to let you attach photos to responses...would be easier for me to explain.

Great video and you make valid points. I would add that GP Replicas screwed up the BBS wheels pretty badly on this model. The Minichamps version has much better wheels in terms of the distinctive BBS spokes. Agree with you about the driver figure and proportion in relation to cockpit. Also think the nose is too wide and should be squared of around the edges more. The Goodyear markings on the sidewalls are again wrong, sitting at an incorrect angle. They are getting better (slowly) and this is much better than their awful early 1994 season version, but they still need to employ proper enthusiasts able to spot fundamental mistakes

The Renaults and Jordans for the most part were pretty solid. They totally rushed the Ferraris and so mostly they are dogs though the Elite versions once I added a figure are good. That said if Minichamps made all the Renaults, Ferrari’s, Jordans and Williams from the Mattel era I would happily buy them. I just can’t wait 18 more years! Fantastic! Thank you for hitting subscribe. I go in waves with a lot of videos then a drought depending on my purchases. 2024 F1 cars are just coming out so in the New Year I hope to have some for review. If you ever have a specific car or video idea do not hesitate to put it in the comments. On the layout it was decades in the making in terms of finally having a place for that display. Many years of boxes just stacked. That said I have maxed it out mostly so need to have a rethink on what stays and what goes!

Watched your video for the 3rd time, it's nice to be retired and on a very cold day in Virginia. In regard the air tunnel, you are correct in the longer tunnel on the JDC Miller car of which is identical to the Penske Porches. Was quite shocked at that difference. I was wrong about the air jack inlet on the Hertz model. Mine does have one on the fuel input side. It is outlined in red.

Congratulations on a great Aquisition. They are two of my personal favorites as I have about (5) Porsche 963s. It is so cool to see them in 1/18 scale. All of the great work put into making these replicas stand out so much more. As my 1/43 scale cars are Dealership Editions and have to be distributed in both Europe and North America mine are out 1,500 produced and like your Heartz, exact serial numbers are not given. You can imagine my excitement when I got on KZbin and saw your review. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I got out my two cars to see how they compare. Quite close, nothing missing including the exhaust of which I had overlooked. The tail pipes look much better in 1/18 as well as the cabin hinges and aerials. Great review as always and congratulations again. PS: my 2nd to next will be the Penske Porsches as I have not reviewed them yet. I was taking pictures of them at Sebring 2023. The Penske people kicked me out of scrutineering. I felt bad and understood as thew were new. Some manufactures like Toyota and Peugeot compete in the WEC for greater reach globally, than in IMSA. Peugeot do virtually nothing in North America. Plus, all entries in the WEC get automatic entry into Le Mans. Porsche, Cadillacs and Lamborghini for example do both. Lamborghini will not do WEC in 2025 because of the requirement of factory entries to field two cars. Not in their budget. Good news is that we in the US will them at all of the distance events. In regard to the subtle differences, all in 1/43 scale (5) have the tunnel bridge The Penske Porsche and the JDC Miller cars have a black tunnel bridge of which looks different but are not. As the JDC Miller and the Team Jota cars are identical in all ways to the factory Porsches. In regard to the air jack inlet, wow. You made me look at all five of mine and only the Team Jota model seam to lack it. Great observation. Again, thanks for the great review, you made me look even deeper than had though to.

Hey you encouraged me to get them! You asked in a comment and literally they were on sale the next day or two later so I grabbed them. Happy I did and I had just seen them in Austin over Labor Day so more of a connection having seen them race. I need to do a Penske review but have a few others I need to get out first. Was happy to break the Vintage Ferrari F1 streak. I am sure it bores people so I have plotting my next few videos to mix it up. I saw Lambo was out after just one season. I really don't understand why the WEC and IMSA are not all together even though the new regs were supposed to make that possible. On the modesl I think the WEC cars and the IMSA cars must be those differences I tried to highlight. I would need another IMSA version to validate that though.

Thanks for the review! I cancelled my order for the Looksmart 499P in 1:18th as I was put off by the panel gap in the front wheel arches, which on some examples of the model is rather ungainly. The gap isn't there on the real car, not on Looksmart's own 1:43th version of it nor on the Bburago or BBR version, which frankly is way overpriced.

Referring to great seasons Ferrari had between 1979 and 1997: I think they probably had the best car in 1982. If Gilles Villeneuve hadn't had his fatal accident he would have probably won the world championship. The team was really unlucky that year.

Very true…there were a few good seasons in there…1982 was pre my interest in F1, 1985 is probably my first memory of exposure to F1 via my father. Yes in 82 they really could have won. 1990 was probably another lost Constructor and maybe even the Drivers title. But good point 82 was a tragic year that should have been different.

Thank you. I like this one a lot. Very different from the 412T1. Yes they only do “historical” or “older” models. That said time is always moving so they have already made announcements for Ferrari F1 up to 2001 maybe even 2002? Maybe a few years but I suspect they will do all the Schumacher championship cars and I would guess they will make most of the F1 champs but probably lag 20 years behind current. There is still a good amount of McLaren’s, Williams, Benetton, Lotus from the 80’s /early90’s that could be made. Thanks for watching and for your question.

It's beyond me why Tecnnomodel is presented and priced as a high-end brand, as their models are lacking in detail, are often crude, often don't have the right decals on the right places and whenever there's a rear wing, chances are it's not positioned horizontally. That being said, as you underline, they do produce models no other manufacturer makes, and they produce them in low quantities.

It's the last line in your comment that is the underlying theme. This one is one of the better ones and some of the Lotus'. Where it really falls apart is the 1950-1970 when you have exposed engines with velocity stacks... for a reasonable price fine, but not at GP Replica prices is my thought. Thank you for watching your comments. Happy collecting.

@mycarcave6214
@mycarcave6214 23 күн бұрын
Are you referring to the black winglet on the right side of the car as you look at the front to back of the car? There is a little black winglet that is the on board camera. Sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left depending on the race. There are also two fins on each side of the tail end of the Halo that are helping direct the air flow across the back of the car. On the floor of the car, the vertical slats are referred to as the "floor fences" and guide the air into the venturi tunnel of the underfloor. The most outer "fence" looks like a barge board but I think in technical terms is just the most outer "fence strake". Hopefully I answered your question?

Just to follow up. I haven't been disappointed with the two tecnomodel models I bought and am generally appreciative that they are doing models of 80s F1 cars. I am more than happy to have these in my collection. I see they have announced the Renault RE30b from 1982 with the Arnoux or Prost driver figure. Their driver figures are the best on the market. Great detail and correctly scaled. I have found some GP Replicas models to have helmets smaller than correct scale. I have the GP Replicas Arnoux version without the driver and am now torn as to what to do as I prefer to have cars with driver figures. The new Tecnomodel is retailing at €228 but with 10% discount will see it at just over €200 ( or £170 in my money ). This is exactly same price as Spark, and cheaper than Minichamps. Not sure what I would get on Ebay for my GP Replicas version. Some investigating to do. Link below. www.carmodel.com/tecnomodel/tmd18-399b/1-18/renault/f1-re30b-v6-turbo-team-renault-elf-n-16-winner-italy-gp-with-pilot-figure-1982-rene-arnoux/185767 And just to reiterate what I said about Tecnomodel Helmets. I've recently ordered the Tecnomodel Elio De Angelis 1983 Lotus 94T ( which imo is a far better looking car than the 93T being produced by GP Replicas ) and am blown away by the replication of the helmet worn by De Angelis in 83' ( and previous years in fact). See link below and let me know if you are impressed or not. I thinks it's superb and a must have. www.carmodel.com/tecnomodel/tmd18-400b/1-18/lotus/f1-94t-team-jps-n-11-european-gp-with-pilot-figure-1983-elio-de-angelis/186128

Another great review as usual..As a fellow F1 1/18 collector I can agree on many of the points and agreed, they lack GP Replicas detail. As you say, they do release models of cars not made by others and as a big fan of 82' and 83' cars I bought the Lotus 91 and Alfa Romeo 183T. As you don't know if GP Replicas will produce them, you have no option but to snap them up on release. In principal as display models they are very well proportioned and the paint work is extremely good. I buy from CarModel and generally they are about €25 cheaper than a GP Replicas with the driver figure. However the GP Replicas comes with a premium display case and the Tecnomodel just the beige base. I would probably put Tecnomodel on the same level as Spark, and better than Minichamps. Get the GP Replicas if there is a choice. Please keep the reviews coming.....Thanks

Thank you so much for watching and your comments. I don't want to hate on Tecnomodel because they often make cars or variants others do not. They definitely started the back catalogue and thus I have quite a few. I will do a review were I will hate on their velocity stacks! That said paint and display wise they look good and they did a really good job on the driver figure for this one. I am looking forward to their late 1980's Lotus cars post Senna. As always happy collecting. I have a reasonable amount of new cars to keep me busy with new videos the rest of the year so hopefully you will enjoy some of those and looking forward to the 2024's maybe early in the new year.

I paid something like $220 for this because I jumped on it but now you can find them on sale(which is not as common as it is with GP or Minichamps). You do not get the acrylic cover you get with GP or Spark (I have said I don't need those but they come on cheaper models). I plan to do a better video comparing Tecno v GP and you can see especially on the 1960's F1 how bad Tecno can be for the money. On purchasing I try to leave the link in the description but that is probably a good suggestion. I will try to think how I can present that in a constructive way. I will also try to do some research on the company. All good suggestions....I have a video specifically for you coming up when I can find some time to figure out how to present it since it is less my wheel house and 100% yours!

It is possible that carbon fiber was not utilized in motorsports until 1988 by Dr, Jacob Lahija when he invented the balanced ultra-high Young's modulus of which was extensively used in automotive and aerospace applications. I started cycling in 1991 with steel. graduated to aluminum and few years later despite that fact that aluminum was available earlier. It was until about 2000 when carbon fiber bikes appeared of which very few of us could afford as the process was new and few manufacturers produced it. Now it is widely available and affordable. Another possibility is that your model has raw carbon fiber of which as not been wrapped. I had to look all of this crap up ( Wikipedia) for carbon fiber development. And as you know, to race for local bike shops and was usually the first to get and try new bikes and components. I have wrecked enough bikes to know what raw carbon fiber looks like and have gone through wrecked carbon fiber at auto races looking for any that I might want to take home.

No worries...I have to look up stuff all the time. I am also wrong at times hahaha. These wings were carbon fiber at the time. The "weave" was less pronounced then today. In 1983 Ferrari moved from a majority Aluminum wing to a carbon fiber wing during that season. John Bernard at McLaren introduced the first carbon fiber monocoque tub in 1981 on the McLaren MP4/1 and that was the first real adoption of carbon fiber into the cars. Bernard would later mover to Ferrari in 1987 and introduce "paddle shifting" or semi automatic gear box.

@mycarcave6214

hahaha...glad someone is listening to my rambling! Yes the yellow markers on wings in the old days and currently on the TV cameras are the markings for the "second" driver. It is probably unfair to call it the second driver as it implies its the lower ranking driver, though if you look it is often the driver considered to be 2nd in the team. Purpose was to distinguish the cars at speed because the numbers on cars are often hard to see in F1.

I have a video on hiw to tell IMSA pro and pro am entrires, LMP2, LMP3 and DPI. As you also know, Im new to F1. I recently aquired 2 Spark 2014 models, one Mercedes an the other RedBull. The Red Bull model is noticeably shorter than the Mercedes. Is that possible or are one of my models a poor casting. Being Sparks, I would be shocked if one was a poor casting. I did have a couple of IXO 1/43 scale Ford GTs that were so bad, very fat and short, that I gave away and of my more popular videos focused on that.

I have watched some of your videos and while I like LeMans and Endurance I am definitely not as up to speed on the nuances as you are. I enjoy learning from your videos on those topics. Yes it is possible they were different lengths. I am traveling so I can't check my 1/18th but my recollection is that the Merc was the shortest on the grid and a quick look online shows the Red Bull should be about 10in longer. Red Bull had that weird black nose that extended out. From what I understand there is not reg of overall length, just width and height, but they had a nose height regulation that led to many of the cars that year having a "proboscis nose" on the front. So it is odd that your Merc is longer than the Red Bull. That would surprise me from Spark.

It is surprising but from what I read the length was flexible but height and width are more defined in the rules. So you could have variable wheelbases and ultimate car lengths on the grid. It is less the case in the current regs and most cars are very similar in length and wheelbase. Every iteration of the rules has defined the “boxes” more tightly so now cars look nearly like spec racing such as Indy. Most of the differentiation happens in between the wheels in the side pod rear engine cowling area. New regs for 2026 will make cars smaller thankfully… I can’t recall if it will be similar to the 2014 regs. 2017 to me is when it got really out of control. So I am looking forward to the change.. plus more room in the display case😆
