I’m gonna be real, until SkekUng’s was mentioned in name and when SkekVar died, I deadass thought SkekVar and him were the same character. I was initially bothered by what I perceived to be a continuity error, but I was more than willing to overlook it…. Because the show was *that good*

In the novel, the scene in Aughra's observatory had more material and dialogue, apparently cut from the film. I recently reread the novel after over forty years, and it holds up quite well. I just wish Smith had been permitted to do more worldbuilding and fleshed out the setting with more detail and depth.

Now that I’m paying attention to a film I saw as a little girl, I find it interesting that Mother Thra or Aughra might be an embodiment possibly of God in the biblical lore because the fact she helped the gelflings get the Apple is mostly associated with the garden of Eden and the first human couple, Adam and Eve. Like the knowledge of good and bad. 😮

Thank you for explaining. Personally, I always knew SkekVar and SkekUng were completely different Skeksis, but I can understand how some fans may be confused. It’s interesting how similar SkekUng is to SkekVar. They are both very (yet fittingly) opposite to their UrRu Counterparts: UrIm the Healer is SkekUng’s counterpart, and SkekVar’s counterpart is UrMa the Peacemaker. It’s interesting that both generals love to shed blood, while their counterparts try to heal and bring peace. Both pairs are a perfect representation of light and dark balance. I know most of the UrRu/Skeksis pairs are very and fittingly opposite, but it’s almost ironic in the case of these two. The only pair that is very opposite but not fittingly so is SkekNa with UrNol. Their counterpart relation is perhaps the most interesting, given that their roles as a Slave Master and an Herb Tender have absolutely nothing to do with each other, opposite or otherwise.

Hi, thank you for all your videos on Dark Crystal Age of Resistance !! I hope and I would like believe, that we can help to finance a season 2 !! We are many to support this univers ! If we are between 10 000 and 500 000 peoples to give just 10 euros/dollar, we can reunite 100 000 or 5 000 000 euros/dollars to participate to finance the 2nd season ! To give money to Jim Henson Company ! Than, they could have looking a other production box for help them ! Or ask to Netflix ! I hope sincerely we can help together ! :)

It is certainly Brea in Deet's vision. However, I can't help but feel Brea in that vision isn't carrying her own child (if indeed it is a baby, and that seems to be implied). Intuition--and probably preference/bias--says to me that it's Seladon's baby, and Brea is tasked with protecting him or her.

5:30 this is a little dark and sad and real to think about, but I can't help wondering--could the female wing delicacy and vulnerability have a parallel with diminished human female strength (as compared to males)? A reading could be made about se xual vulnerability.

2:00 interesting point about Drenchen physiology. Wonder why in that case Gurjin didn't seem to suffer much in the desert? Of course, he hasn't any wings, being male, but presumably he does have gills and other adaptations suited to watery environments.

Ah, see, I'd always thought Seladon caught Fara by the wing not the shoulder. This is interesting.A question remains of how a delicately-built princess became so strong as to pull a bigger, older, stronger warrior Gelfling out of mid-air?

It looks like he tried to make Dark Crystal more like Star Wars. It's pretty evident he was salty about George Lucas not letting him work on Return of the Jedi, given he tried to get back into Lucasfilm two months before Dark Crystal began shooting. Only for Howard Kazanjian and Charles Watts to all him out for the production problems he caused on Empire and kicked him out.

Quick question... I've been searching for rpg's to play, namely solo ones. Could this be played without a DM? Also, even if your answer is negative (or you wouldn't advise it or something), I do kinda want to delve into this world of the Dark Crystal again. I was one year old when the movie came out and the first time I saw it was something like 11-12 years old? I thought it was such a weird movie. Yet, growing older it often passed my mind as I saw glimpses of it on the internet sometimes. Now that I'm older, this world doesn't look as weird anymore, in fact it looks rather interesting. It's not Harry Potter nor Lord of the Rings, but it is totally unique in that there are no humans in it. It's a REAL fantasy world. So yeah, searching for a new hobby away from the computer and rpg's seem nice. And this world in particular! So... glad I found your channel. :) And thanks for uploading!!

I think based off listening to your points in the video, the people that worked on this were fans of the world themselves. When you think about a fandom would be the best people to write a comic, run a franchise, stuff like that. But this, this was actually that unicorn production that were a niche group, but hot damn do we love our franchise.

With the writing and actor strikes going on, there will be some changes and power shifts. Maybe this would be a good time to get some interest stirred up. If the interwebs see there's recently a spike in Dark Krystal activity. #What about The Dark Krystal or something like that. Disney worked out something to get the Netflix Marvel shows. I get that the Marvel connection was a big part of it. But what the heck, we could show the other franchises the children of Thra (us included) did not go quietly into the night? 😎💪

I like to think that Aughra was making some kind of pun that went straight over Jen's head. It's consistent throughout The Dark Crystal that every immortal being has no biological sex, since there was never intended to be any more or fewer of them. The Gelflings were accustomed to thinking of everything in terms of their two genders before meeting any immortal beings like Aughra and the Ur'skeks, so their language probably also genders everything, even inanimate objects, like many Earth languages do. The Skeksis adopted gender as an affectation to make the impressions they wished to make upon the Gelflings, and Aughra may have done the same thing, or just accepted being referred to as female out of frustration because it's not worth taking the time to explain.
