Yamaha has always produced a line pf real quality instrument's and if you keep your eyes open you see them in all forms of music jazz, 90;s metal , a lot of early pop punk bands used yamahas i remember some funk guys using them in the early 80's.. i made the mistake in 1980-81 i purchased a Ibanez custom blazer instead of a Yamaha SB1000 (think it was a 1000 might have been 2000) the only reason i went with the blazer was it was much lighter. They were both the best guitars in the store, Japan was really top of the game from 75 to 89...

@@REX-ks1os I recently got an SE1220 that I haven’t reviewed yet. Pretty much same specs as this guitar but a 25.5 in scale length. Looks more like a standard strat. Would love an SA2000 but need to find one for the right price.

I love mine (it is much more heavily modified) but still retains the brass plate that is under the bridge. The sustain on these beasties is really something to behold. The wood work is also quite gorgeous, too! Always thought that it was a shame these were discontinued. Yours looks and sounds gorgeous!

A heavy heavy guitar in every sense of the word. I've had a Stuart Adamson model since '84. It's like a brother.

I bought mine around 1988. Happened to walk into my fave guitar shop and there it was. I knew Carlos Santana played them so I picked it up and plugged it into a Marshall mini-stack. Hasn't left my hands since.

Brilliant!@@sydwynd I'd been watching Stuart and John McGeoch playing them for a few years and they were my guitar heroes when I was a kid so as soon as I could afford it I got one from the Soho Soundhouse. I can remember being terrified someone would try and pinch it as I headed home on the underground. I don't think anyone could have prised it off me even with knives and guns lol. I've hardly played it for 20 years. It's a little bit road worn from 2 decades of gigging but still VGC. I used it through a JCM800 stack for a while and then a fender Stage 185 like Stuart used in early Big Country. It sounded good through anything. I'm really looking forward to restringing it now. All hail the Les Paul Killer!

I also read conflicting information regarding the set/thru neck construction on these. In my body I see a faint glue line where the "wings" of the body are attached, but not at the neck heel - but I don't know if that really indicates anything. In the end I love how smooth the joint is, whichever construction it is. Cheers!

Playing guitar for 65 years I got into playing electric guitar maybe when I was 40. After a lot of time in bands I am now back to solo acoustic gigs. Being more of a singer who plays guitar I never got along with the Strat when I borrowed one for a 'sit in' with bands as my hands would often knock the volume. For 15 years I played the telecaster as the volume knob was further back. I sometimes played a Gibson Les Paul for a riff with sustain, but it was horribly heavy for a three hour gig on stage.

If I buy a BYO custom shop tele with some fancy pickups and upgraded tuners/bridge etc, it'll come to around 1000 USD (approx) Will it sound and play as good (hopefully better) as a fender performer series USA telecaster (As that is around the same price but with lesser upgrades)
@sydwynd
@sydwynd 3 жыл бұрын
Can't speak to if it will sound or play as well as a USA tele. However, the body and neck of this guitar are well made and feel top notch. And you get the advantage of building it exactly as you want. Not telling you what you should do, just my opinion, mind you. The out of the box guitar sounded decent for the price.
